Eating healthy when you are at school all day can sometimes be a challenge. It is so tempting to eat out but nothing good comes of that. It is expensive and you end up feeling like you ate too much and you want to fall asleep all afternoon. Who needs that?!?

A couple times a week, I go shopping for my food for meals. I saw fresh baked California Goldminer Sourdough Bread and I knew it would be part of my healthy lunches on a regular basis. Fresh baked bread and sourdough are my favourite (and my weakness).  🙂 Can you believe that they make this sourdough bread fresh daily at the grocery store bakery? ❤

Water and bread can so easily be toast and tea.

I made some sandwich sushi, which is a great addition to a healthy lunch. There are so many variations you can make on the sandwich sushi and it is something that will be enjoyed by both young and old. 

Sourdough Bread Sandwich Sushi

The California Goldminer Sourdough Bread is so tasty that you won’t want to have one bit go to waste.  These sandwich kebabs (below) are a great idea for using the last few pieces of bread. Use cheese, deli meat, bread, pickles, grapes and peppers to create a colourful and tasty lunch.

If you have leftover chicken, cut that up and have on the kebab instead of deli meat. Yummy!

You can get creative with sandwich sushi. You can try to make:

  • Nutella and strawberry
  • Peanut butter and jam
  • Peanut butter and banana
  • Deli meat, string cheese and lettuce
  • Deli meat, cream cheese, lettuce and pickle
  • Cucumber, avocado, pepper and carrot

I regret eating healthy today…said no one ever!

Ingredients
  1. 3 Slices California Goldminer Sourdough Bread
Fillings
  1. Nutella and strawberry
  2. Peanut butter and jam
  3. Peanut butter and banana
  4. Deli slices, string cheese and lettuce
  5. Deli slices, cream cheese, lettuce and small pickle
  6. Cucumber, avocado, pepper and carrot
Instructions
  1. Cut crusts off the bread slices.
  2. Flatten the bread slices with a rolling pin.
  3. Add ingredients about a 1/2 inch from one end and then roll tightly.
  4. Cut into pieces with a sharp knife. Clean the knife after each cut.

I pick up the California Goldminer Sourdough Bread at my local Fred Meyer store. You find it in the bakery section, not the bread aisle. It is a pre-sliced sandwich loaf for easy use and comes in a variety of flavours. Head on over to the California Goldminer website to learn more about the history of sourdough bread.

This bread smells amazing…you won’t be able to resist. I have to hide it from my brother or he will eat it all!

And yes, I am in college and still use a Hello Kitty lunchbox.  🙂
