My trip to Oahu was one that I was really looking forward to. I had never been to Hawaii before so we planned our trip to spend a few days in Oahu and then fly to Kauai for the rest of the trip. We saw breathtaking views, perfect white sand beaches, swam with sharks and climbed some mountains. In a few days were were able to fall in love with Oahu and all its beauty. I definitely need to go back soon because there was still so much more that I wanted to experience.
Lets talk hikes! We did two hikes while we were in we were in Oahu. The first one we did was the Crouching Lion. It takes about 20 minutes and it is super easy. When we were there it was pretty slippery, so be careful on that. It has such an amazing view at the top. It really great for sunset and there are a bunch of other cliffs and lookouts you can walk to as well. It was a nice end to a long day. 🙂
The other hike that we did in Oahu was Olomana Three Peaks. We started on this hike in the darkness so that we could be at the top at sunrise. It was a little scary but it was worth the amazing view at the top. Since we were walking in the dark (with headlamps) it took us longer going up than it probably would have in the daylight. We had a Mike as a guide to the top. He is an amazing guide and an awesome person. It was nice nice meeting him and getting to know him. If you are ever in Oahu and need a guide to get you to some of the trickier trails I suggest hiring him! The hike round trip is about 3 plus hours. We started at 5am and got back down around 9am…which included some time enjoying the view at the top.
The Oahu North Shore
Lets talk North Shore now! There are so many amazing beaches along the north shore in Oahu. They are all perfect and have white sand….which is my fave. These next few photos are from the beach right after pipeline and across the street from the Sunrise Shack fruit stand. I was actually happy that it started to rain a little bit because then we got a rainbow but not just one we got two!!! Joel is a huge fan of rainbows so it was a win for us. After the rain stopped be headed to a calm cove and got some drone shots!
Like how cool is this image!!?? I look so small!
While you are in the north shore you are going to want to hit up the Sunrise Shack. They have the best bullet proof coffee and papaya bowls. If you don’t go here you are missing out.
Does this area look familiar to you!?! If you have seen Lost then you may recognize it. This is the exact area that they filmed the show Lost! Mokulē’ia Beach is so fun to visit. It first starts off as a jungle and then leads to a really calm nice clear blue beach. Just perfection!
Other Spots to Check Out!
I have always wanted to go surfing so I was so fortunate that Ben took me to Cromwell’s Beach to try to start learning how to stand on a surf board. It is a perfect calm beach / cove and ideal for the basics of surfing. Next trip I will have to try to learn more.
You have probably seen this road all over Instagram like 1000 times. It is just picture perfect. I wanted to be basic and get a picture there, too. 🙂 This was at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. This picture was taken right when you enter the gates. There is a parking lot right outside you can leave your car at. It was a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Diving with Sharks
We got to experience diving with sharks with One Ocean Diving and oh my that was one for the books! I really enjoyed swimming but I haven’t really had much experience snorkeling. I tried to remain calm…as calm as you can be with sharks swimming around you. 🙂 They are actually not a scary as everyone thinks. If you wan to experience sharks in their natural environment without cages, I highly recommend One Ocean Diving. They were amazing and we had a fabulous morning.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my blog post and vlog. I will have the second half of my trip…Kauai…up soon.
