What a delicious holiday side dish that maple bacon wrapped green bean bundles make! These oven roasted green beans with bacon are salty, sweet and buttery. They pair with pretty much anything. Try them with chicken, steak, your Thanksgiving ham or anything else you want. These green beans wrapped in bacon will become a family favorite.
This appealing side dish is really easy to make and the crisp bacon and juicy green beans partner up beautifully.

This isn’t a recipe for canned beans, so you’ll need fresh green beans here. You can use regular green beans or haricots verts (the thinner ones) as you prefer. If you’re using regular ones, don’t include so many in each strip of bacon because they’re fatter.
Butter, maple syrup, garlic, rosemary, onion, lemon, and pepper flakes add plenty of amazing flavour accents to this holiday side dish. Bacon is great in all kinds of side dishes. I love adding chopped bacon to roasted Brussels sprouts, for example.

How to Make Maple Bacon Wrapped Green Bean Bundles
As holiday vegetable dishes go when you have guests over, this one is always appreciated. You need to cook the bacon strips for this green beans wrapped in bacon side dish until it’s nearly cooked. Don’t let it cook crispy though else you won’t be able to wrap your fresh green beans!
The beans should be cooked to crisp-tender too. Again, don’t overcook them because they’ll be cooking some more in the oven. And nobody wants soggy bacon wrapped vegetables!
Combine your butter with the maple syrup, salt, pepper, garlic, onion, rosemary, and some red pepper flakes. You can tweak the amounts if you want, adding more red pepper for a spicier flavour. Agave syrup or honey can be used in place of the maple syrup.
Toss the par-cooked beans in the maple syrup mixture then add lemon. The next step in this oven roasted green beans with bacon recipe is to wrap the beans in the bacon. I like to use a toothpick when I make green beans wrapped in bacon. It stops the bacon unraveling from the beans. If you use toothpicks remember to remove them after cooking. Nobody wants to crunch on a toothpick in their holiday side dish!
Roast the maple bacon wrapped green bean bundles for about 15 minutes. As with most other holiday vegetable dishes this is delicious served hot from the oven. It would be wonderful paired with this maple glazed salmon or this hamburger steak and gravy.
What Kind of Bacon is Best for Bacon Wrapped Vegetables?
This maple glazed green beans side dish requires bacon strips. See if you can get thin bacon rather than thicker slices. It cooks faster and if you use thick bacon slices they can overwhelm the delicate flavours in holiday vegetable dishes.
Prosciutto is an alternative to bacon when making maple bacon wrapped green bean bundles. This is a salty dry-cured type of ham which is buttery in flavour and comes in very thin slices. It crisps up in the oven, making it a good bacon alternative in this holiday side dish. The difference if using prosciutto is it doesn’t need to be cooked before wrapping the fresh green beans. It’s thinner and cooks much faster. This makes partially cooking it unnecessary.
Both bacon and prosciutto are pretty salty, so don’t additional salt to the green beans wrapped in bacon for the best results. I always add a pinch when boiling the beans but don’t add any more to the dish than that.
How to Store Leftovers
You know how it is. The day after Thanksgiving, Christmas or another festive occasion the refrigerator is typically heaving with leftovers! Even if you send some home with dinner guests you will still have plenty left. But that’s a good thing. You can keep these maple green beans for a few days in the refrigerator and then just pop them in a hot oven to warm them back up.
Green beans wrapped in bacon make an attractive side dish. It’s such an easy recipe though. The salty crunch of the bacon and crisp flavour of the green beans are complemented with the rich butter and other seasonings.

Maple Bacon Wrapped Green Bean Bundles
Ingredients
- 1 Pound green beans , French
- 1 Strips bacon
- 2 Tablespoon butter
- 2 Tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- 1 Teaspoon black pepper
- 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon rosemary, dried
- 1/2 Teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 Tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Place bacon onto a baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake the bacon at 350 for approx 15 minutes or until almost cooked, but not yet crispy.
- Take bacon out of the oven and set aside.
- While the bacon is cooking, season a large pot of water generously with salt and bring the water to a boil.
- When the water comes to a boil, add in the green beans. Cook the beans for approx 5 minutes until they are almost tender.
- Remove the green beans from the boiling water and immediately put them into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
- In a small bowl melt together the butter, maple syrup, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and red pepper flakes.
- Gently dry the green beans off with a paper towel, or lint free clean kitchen towel.
- Pour the melted butter mixture over the green beans and toss to coat.
- Squeeze the ½ lemon over the top of the green beans and toss to coat.
- Increase the oven heat to 450 degrees F.
- Take a small bundle of green beans, maybe 8 to 10 at a time and wrap the center of the bundle with a strip of the bacon. You can secure the end with a toothpick.
- Place the bundle onto a baking sheet.
- Once you have wrapped all of the green beans, drizzle any leftover butter mixture from the green bean bowl over the top of the bundles.
- Bake the green beans for approx 15 minutes or until the bacon and green beans have a nice roasted color.
