Considering this 4-ingredient Halloween dinner is so simple, you should definitely make mummy Halloween hot dogs this year. This scary hot dog snack is great for everyone, especially the kids, since they’re fun to look at and tasty to eat. If you love hot dogs, you are going to love spooky pigs in a blanket. All you need to make crescent roll hot dog mummies is wieners, crescent dough, candy eyes, and mustard. Anyone can make mummy Halloween hot dogs with ease, since it’s such an easy Halloween party recipe!
These are great served hot from the oven or you can let them cool and add them to a buffet spread – Halloween hot dogs are great any way you serve them.
Love making Halloween treats? Also try chocolate frogs, Halloween panna cotta eyeballs or perhaps spooky pretzel snacks.
Crescent Roll Hot Dog Mummies Ingredients
One of the best things about this Halloween dinner idea is how few ingredients you need to make them. And not only to make them but to make them look great!
The main ingredient is hot dog wieners. You can pick any brand here. Also known as frankfurters, wieners were named after Vienna – the Austrian city. Now, if you are making mummy Halloween hot dogs for vegetarians or anyone that doesn’t eat pork, you can find vegetarian (and even vegan!) alternatives, or use a 100% beef variety for your spooky pigs in a blanket.
Next up is crescent dough. Yes you could make your own dough from scratch, but why would you want to when it’s so quick and easy to use a can of refrigerated crescent dough? Again, any brand you favour is fine.
Biscuit dough would also work in this Halloween party recipe. Just flatten it and then roll it out using your rolling pin, then cut it into strips with a pizza cutter. The result from using biscuit dough will be very similar to using crescent dough. Another option for you is pizza dough.
The candy eyes is what really brings this scary hot dog recipe to life, and there are various ones to choose from. You can get candy eyes online or else make your own, perhaps with a dab of mustard or sour cream and a little piece of black olive.
The eyes are attached to the crescent roll hot dog mummies with a dab of mustard. Not keen on mustard? Feel free to use another condiment like ketchup or mayo if you prefer. The candy eyes are mainly for decoration anyway, unless of course you like eating candy, mustard and hot dogs together!
How to Make Mummy Halloween Hot Dogs
It’s important to make sure the wieners are dry before you begin. If not, the extra moisture will soak into the dough and your spooky pigs in a blanket will be more soggy than spooky. Roll them gently in paper towels to remove the moisture.
Next, roll out the dough, pinching the seams together, then use a knife or pizza cutter to make ¼-inch strips. It doesn’t matter how long they are, so if they break don’t worry about it. Spooky mummies don’t have to be perfectly bandaged.
Wrap the dough strips around the wieners. Include a few criss-crosses but not too many else they won’t bake right. Oh, and remember to leave space in the face area because you’ll be adding the eyes afterwards.
Now you can arrange the scary hot dog mummies on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Give them 8 minutes or a little more at 350 degrees F. You will be able to see when this Halloween party recipe is done because the dough will be crisp and golden.
Finally, add the candy eyes to the face area, sticking them on with mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce, or your condiment of choice.
What to Serve with this Halloween Dinner
If you’re making these as part of dinner, rather than a buffet table snack, you can also make whatever you’d typically have with hot dogs.
Continue the spooky theme by making Halloween skull potatoes or rustle up this black charcoal Halloween pizza. You can also make regular sides like coleslaw, fries, wedges, corn on the cob, or whatever you want.
Mummy Halloween Hot Dogs FAQs
You can make them a little ahead of time, since they’re also good at room temperature or even cold. Or you can prepare them up to 2 days in advance.
Simply arrange them on a baking sheet then wrap the whole thing in plastic wrap and bake when ready. If you want to bake them ahead, that’s also fine – they will keep for 3 days, refrigerated in an airtight container.
Definitely! And that makes sense if you have other Halloween dinner snacks in the main oven. They will take somewhere around 7 minutes at 330 degrees F.

- 1 Package candy eyes
- 1 Tablespoon mustard

I tried this yesterday even if it’s not halloween and my kids loved it! So good! 👌
I made these and OMG they were so easy! They look professional in your pictures and even mine came out looking food (and I don’t cook much!) I used beef hot dogs because I like that better than pork and then I used Grey Poupon mustard for mine. And yum yum!!
These are just adorable!
