Easy: With just 7 ingredients, one of which is Oreos and another cookie mix, this is one of the easiest recipes around for homemade cookies.

Customizable: You can change the kind of chocolate chips you use – white chocolate chips would be good, or you might want to use extra chocolate chips or less, depending on personal preference. You can also add other components to these delicious cookies to make them your own.

Chocolate chip cookie dough mix (here): For the cookie dough balls.

How to Make Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Chop the Oreos: Chop the Oreo cookies roughly with a knife or smash them into smithereens using a mallet or similar (it’s up to you how fine you want the Oreo pieces or crumbs!)
Combine the cookie dough ingredients: Mix the chocolate chip cookie dough or unbaked cookie dough balls with the softened butter and egg, then add the sour cream and vanilla extract.
Add more ingredients: Next, mix in the chocolate chips as well as half the chopped or crushed Oreos.
Divide up the cookie dough: Drop heaped tablespoons using a 1.5 tablespoon cookie scoop (here) of the cookie dough on to a parchment paper lined baking sheet or cookie sheet, pressing more chopped Oreo pieces into each one.
Bake the cookies: Preheat oven and cook for about 12 minutes or until the middles are set and the edges are firm.
Let them cool: Give the cookies about 10 minutes on a wire rack to cool, then serve and enjoy.
Substitutions and Variations
Chocolate chips: Use white chocolate chips instead of semi sweet chocolate chips if you prefer. A little dark brown sugar or granulated sugar can be added if you’re substituting in a bittersweet chocolate for the semi sweet chocolate chips, just to balance out the sweetness.
Oreo cookies: You don’t have to use the Oreo brand – Walmart’s Great Value alternative is also ideal for making this recipe. And you can use absolutely any flavor Oreos or similar.
Vanilla extract: Substitute another extract for the vanilla, perhaps hazelnut or coconut.
Optional add-ins: A handful of mini marshmallows or some butterscotch chips would be good.
Serving Suggestions
With a drink: An Oreo chocolate chip cookie is a thing of beauty when paired with a glass of cold milk, but there are so many other ways to serve and enjoy Oreo chocolate chip cookies. Try them with anything from homemade hot chocolate to limoncello.
With other desserts: If you’re an Oreo fan, you might like to make an Oreo dessert platter with chocolate covered Oreos, Oreo apple balls or Nutella Oreo mousse cups!
How to Store Oreo Choc Chip Cookies
Store: Keep these in an airtight container, either at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to a week, adding parchment paper between each layer so they don’t stick.
Freeze: Freeze them in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag and eat within 3 months.
Top Tips
Count your cookies: If you’re using regular Oreos or another kind of sandwich cookie then you’ll need about 25 cookies, but if you’re using a smaller or larger type of cookie, adjust the amount accordingly.
Use parchment paper: Don’t skip the parchment paper, otherwise your cookies might stick to the baking sheet and break when you try to remove them.
Check for doneness: The cookies are ready to come out of the oven when the middles are set and the edges are firm and slightly golden.
