Ingredients

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Separate 10 of the Oreo cookies in half so you get 20 halves and carefully scrape off the cream with a butter knife. The pieces without cream will be used for the bat’s wings.
  • Break the 20 remaining Oreo halves without cream in half using your hands or a thin knife and pair them up with another piece similar in size.
  • Set aside ¼ cup of mini semisweet chocolate chips for decorating the bats. Melt the remaining ½ cup of chocolate chips in a small microwave-safe bowl on the defrost or low setting. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each one, until completely melted.
  • Attach the wings to one of the Oreo halves with cream filling still on it. Add a bit of melted chocolate in the center to help it stick together then top it with another Oreo cookie half. Set on the prepared baking tray.
  • Use a toothpick or skewer to paint a tiny bit of melted chocolate near the top of the bat’s head then add 2 of the chocolate chips on top to resemble horns.
  • Now add a little more melted chocolate by the center of the cookie for the bat’s eyes and stick them on. Repeat with the remaining cookies.
  • Let the chocolate set completely before serving the bat Oreos. To speed up the setting process, you can refrigerate the Oreo bats.

Notes

Melting the chocolate chips: You can use a double boiler or a microwave safe bowl in the microwave. Make sure you stir the mini chocolate chips often as they melt, so they melt evenly and don't scorch in one place.
Lots of filling: Use Double Stuf or Mega Stuf to make bat Oreo truffles. These varieties have extra cream filling to hold the bat wings in place. If you can only find regular Oreos, add a little frosting or melted chocolate chips to the filling mixture.
Speed up the setting: Once you've assembled the bat Oreos, pop them in the refrigerator and they'll set faster (and if your kitchen is hot, keep them in there until serving!)
