Christmas Chocolate Cookies and Dip

Christmas chocolate cookies and dip pair cocoa sugar cookies with a creamy sprinkle buttercream. They’re festive, fun to make and perfect for sharing.

Make the Cookies

  • Grease or place parchment paper on 2 baking sheets.  
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, and baking soda. Set aside.  
  • With an electric mixer, cream butter, white and brown sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour mixture gradually and mix until well combined.  
  • Form dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate 1 to 2 hours, until easy to handle.  
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into ⅛-inch thickness. Cut out dough with desired cookie cutters.
  • Space them out on baking sheets and bake 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Cool 4 to 5 minutes before moving to cooling racks. Let cool completely before dipping in icing.  

Make the Dip

  • Mix together icing sugar and butter until smooth. Mix in the vanilla.
  • Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached. Stir in sprinkles.  
  • Add the dip to a small serving bowl and serve with cookies on the side.

Notes

Chill dough well: Firm dough makes rolling and cutting easier.
Use festive cutters: Stars, trees and snowflakes make the cookies more fun.
Don’t overbake: Remove cookies once set to keep them soft.
Adjust icing: Add milk slowly to reach the perfect dipping consistency.
Decorate cookies: Sprinkle a few decorations directly on cookies for extra flair.
