Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to the temperature listed on the box of cake mix.
  • Line a cupcake baking tin with paper or foil liners. I like to use plain white or natural liners and then cover them with decorative ones after baking.

Prepare the Cupcake Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix with the ingredients listed on the box. Mine called for oil, milk and eggs.
  • Divide the batter among the cupcake liners in the pan without filling them more than halfway full. Try to keep the amount of batter the same in each cavity.

Bake the Cupcakes

  • Bake in a preheated oven for the time recommended on the back of the box.
  • Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Candy Goal Posts

  • In a small microwave-safe mixing bowl, melt the candy melts at 50% power, stopping and stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Depending on your microwave, this could take up to 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the melted candy into a disposable piping bag and snip the corner.
  • Slide your goal post template under a piece of parchment or wax paper.
  • Pipe the melted candy into the goal post shape by following the template.
  • Put it aside to set while you make the frosting.

Make the Frosting

  • In a medium mixing bowl, stir one teaspoon of green food coloring into half the frosting. Set aside for just a second.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of the other container of vanilla frosting into a disposable piping bag and snip the corner of that bag too. Reserve the remainder of vanilla frosting for use during assembly.
  • By now, the cupcakes should be cool enough to start the assembly.

Arrange the Cupcake Stadium

  • Grab a cookie sheet or a cake board.
  • Place 12 of the cupcakes on the board in a rectangle shape (3 rows of 4 cupcakes each).

Create the Football Field

  • Spoon the green frosting over the top of the 12 cupcakes and use an off-set spatula to smooth the frosting out. This is now your football field.
  • Use a clean ruler and a toothpick to mark straight lines, about an inch apart, across the field. These will be your yard lines.

Pipe the Yard Lines

  • Grab the piping bag with the tablespoon of white frosting in it.
  • Using the toothpick lines as your guide, pipe a thin line of white frosting from long end to long end. Set aside.

Make the Stands of Fans

  • Grab 8 of the remaining cupcakes. These will be your “stands of fans”.
  • Frost the tops of all 8 cupcakes with the white frosting.
  • Dip each cupcake into the rainbow sprinkles ensuring that the top is fully covered.
  • Slide 4 of the cupcakes on one side of the long end and place the other 4 on the opposite side.

Add the Goal Posts

  • Your white chocolate goal posts should be set by now.
  • Press one goalpost into a cupcake on one side and press the other one into a cupcake on the opposite side. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Use a sturdy base: A thick cake board, cutting board or sheet pan supports the full layout.
Even cupcake size: Consistent cupcake sizes make assembly much easier.
Gentle frosting: Smooth the green frosting slowly to avoid pulling crumbs.
Set decorations first: Let candy goalposts firm up completely before placing them.
