Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 Pound Italian sausage ground
  • 1 Cup pizza sauce
  • 1/4 Cup parmesan cheese freshly grated

For the Sliders:

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls halved lengthwise
  • 2 Ounces provolone cheese sliced
  • 1/2 Pound pepperoni sliced
  • 4 Ounces mozzarella cheese freshly shredded
  • 1/4 Teaspoon oregano dried

For the Topping:

  • 1/2 Cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh basil finely chopped
  • 1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese freshly grated

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degree F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside,
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage, breaking it up into crumbles until there is no pink left, 8 to 10 minutes. Drain excess grease if there is any.
  • Stir in the pizza sauce and Parmesan cheese, take off the heat.
  • Place the bottom half of the rolls, cut side up, into the prepared baking dish.
  • Layer the sliced provolone on top of the rolls.
  • Add the sauce and spread it out in an even layer.
  • Layer the pepperoni on top of the sauce.
  • Top with the mozzarella and sprinkle on the oregano.
  • Add the tops of the rolls on top.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the butter, basil, garlic powder, and onion powder until combined.
  • Brush the topping all over the rolls, use it all! Cover with nonstick foil or spray a piece of foil with nonstick cooking spray and place over the baking dish.
  • Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil. Sprinkle the Parmesan on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Let the sliders cool for 10 minutes in the pan then cut along the seams and serve.

Notes

Use block mozzarella: I like to shred my own mozzarella cheese from a block instead of using the ready-shredded cheese from the store. It just melts better.
Get creative: Whichever toppings you love on pizza are sure to be great in these tasty pizza sliders, so don't be afraid to experiment!
Party perfect: You can prep these ahead of time and also double or triple the recipe for a party, game day or family gathering.
Be generous: Don't go light on the butter on top as it is what gives them the beautiful golden color.
Let them cool: Don't serve immediately because they get really hot! Let the pizza sliders rest for a few minutes and then you can use a knife or pizza wheel to cut along the roll seams and separate them.
