  • Fry the bacon in a skillet or bake it in the oven until crispy (see notes below).
  • Cut the bacon into pieces and add it to the slow cooker with all the other ingredients. Stir well.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or low for 4 hours, stirring again before serving.

Notes

Crispy bacon: You can fry the bacon in a skillet, cook it on a griddle or put it on a baking sheet and give it 20 minutes in the oven at 325°F. When the bacon is crisp, cut it into pieces with scissors.
Taste as you go: You might want to adjust how sweet, how salty or how spicy this is, so it's a good idea to give the mixture a taste before cooking and then again after cooking in case you need to tweak anything.
The perfect pairing: Since this is such a tasty dish with lots of depth to the flavor, you might like to serve it along something relative plain, for contrast. Grilled chicken or a juicy steak would be ideal.
