Slow Cooker Ham Green Beans and Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 1 ham bone or 2 ham hocks
  • 2 Cups ham chopped
  • 2 Pounds green beans fresh, trimmed, or 2 Bags frozen green beans
  • Pounds baby potatoes quartered
  • 1 onion large, chopped
  • Cups chicken broth
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic minced
  • ½ Teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Add the ham bone or ham hocks to the slow cooker.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Remove the ham bone and remove all the meat from the bone. Return the ham meat to the Crockpot and discard the bone.
  • Serve immediately with cornbread or garlic bread if liked.

Notes

Stove top version: If you want to make this quickly, cook on the stove.  This can be cooked in just 30 minutes, but it is better the longer it cooks.
Layering: Place the potatoes on top of the ham to prevent them from becoming too soft and mushy during cooking.
Taste Test: Adjust seasoning before serving; adding a pinch of salt or a splash of vinegar can enhance the dish’s flavors.
