Instructions

  • Add the chicken to the slow cooker in one layer.
  • Whisk the remaining ingredients together to make the teriyaki sauce.
  • Pour the teriyaki sauce over the chicken.
  • Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  • Take the chicken out of the crockpot and slice it into strips or shred it with a pair of forks.
  • Put the chicken back in the Crockpot and stir it into the sauce.
  • Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

Choose fresh ingredients: Using fresh garlic and ginger instead of dried or bottled gives the dish a fresher flavor.
Check halfway through: It's best to check how the chicken's doing about halfway through the cooking time, since Crockpots vary in performance and temperature. Make sure the sauce isn't burning at the edges and check the chicken isn't overcooking. Give the mixture a stir and then continue with the recipe.
Thin the sauce: If you need to thin the sauce, add a splash or chicken broth or water and stir to combine, then continue cooking.
