Ingredients

For the Sweet Cream Spread

To Garnish

  • ½ Cup strawberries fresh, sliced

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, add eggs, heavy cream, vanilla, sugar, brown sugar, nutmeg, and half of the coffee powder. Whisk well
  • Cut bread slices in half diagonally to make triangles. Arrange bread in a 3-quart casserole dish.
  • Pour egg mixture over the bread and let soak for at least 1 hour, or overnight. Cover and place into the fridge until ready to cook. Then, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Place French toast into the oven on the center rack and bake for 45 minutes.
  • While the french toast is baking, prepare the sweet cream spread. Add all ingredients into a medium mixing bowl or stand mixer and beat on high speed for 1 minute.
  • Remove French toast from the oven.  Add a scoop of the sweet cream over the center of the toast while it is still hot. Sprinkle the top with cocoa powder, remaining instant coffee, and powdered sugar.
  • Garnish with strawberry slices.

Notes

Use day-old bread: It soaks up the custard better and holds its shape.
Chill overnight if possible: This deepens flavor and softens the bread perfectly.
Add topping just before serving: The sweet cream and garnish are best fresh.
