Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Butter or oil a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the chocolate chips and mix to coat all the chocolate chips with the flour mixture. Set aside.
  • In another large mixing bowl, add the melted butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until all ingredients are combined.
  • Add the egg and sour cream. Mix well between each addition.
  • Add the flour in 3 increments, alternating with the milk.
  • Mix until all ingredients are well blended but don’t over-mix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of mini chocolate chips on top of the batter (optional but good!)
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes. When inserting a toothpick in the middle it will come out clean.
  • Allow the chocolate chip bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Check for doneness: To ensure the bread is fully baked, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with just a few crumbs, it’s ready. If not, bake for a few more minutes and check again.
Avoid over-mixing: Mix the batter until the ingredients are just combined. Over-mixing can make the bread dense and tough.
Cool in the pan: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. This helps it set and prevents it from falling apart.
Use room temperature ingredients: Ingredients like butter, eggs, and milk mix better and create a smoother batter if they are at room temperature.
Grease the pan well: Make sure to grease the loaf pan thoroughly or use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
