Once you know how to marinate mozzarella balls, you'll want to make this garlicky, herby snack all the time, pairing them with bread, crackers or cured deli meats.

Instructions

  • Drain the mozzarella balls from their liquid and discard the liquid.
  • Combine the olive oil, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, parsley, oregano, salt and black pepper, and balsamic vinegar in a medium bowl, mixing well until everything is combined well.
  • Next, add the drained mozzarella balls to the marinade, and toss gently to ensure evenly coat with the mixture.
  • Use plastic wrap to cover the bowl or transfer the mozzarella and marinade into a jar that has a tight-fitting lid.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Bring the marinated mozzarella balls to room temperature before serving with crackers and/or crusty bread, or as part of your charcuterie board or antipasto platter.

Notes

Use good quality mozzarella: The cheese is the star of the dish, so choose something that's good quality.
Taste the marinade: Although the marinade is mainly just to flavor the cheese, it's a good idea to check the flavor balance, so taste it before adding the mozzarella to see if it needs more salt or anything else.
Longer marinating time: I always make these a day ahead because overnight marinating really brings out the flavors.
