Ingredients

  • 2 Ounces butterscotch schnapps such as DeKuyper’s Buttershots
  • 1 Ounce coffee liqueur such as Kahlúa
  • 1 Ounce vodka
  • 1 Ounce heavy cream
  • 1 Pinch ground nutmeg
  • ice

For the Rims

  • butterscotch sauce ice cream topping
  • sea salt

Instructions

  • Pour butterscotch sauce and sea salt onto their own individual shallow plates.
  • Carefully dip top edge of glass into butterscotch sauce, then into the salt.
  • Using a squeeze bottle or a spoon, drizzle some of the butterscotch sauce around the inside wall of the glass. Fill glass with ice.
  • Pour schnapps, coffee liqueur, vodka, and cream over ice. You can stir to mix the cocktail or leave it layered, depending on your preference.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of ground nutmeg over top.

Notes

Don't overdo the salt: You want just enough sea salt to balance the butterscotch, not a thick salty crust around the glass. A light coating is plenty.
Chill the glass: Pop the glass in the refrigerator or freezer while you gather the ingredients. I love this extra cold, especially since there's no shaking involved.
Pour the cream last: If you want that pretty layered White Russian look, slowly pour the heavy cream over the other ingredients once they're in the glass.
Stir before sipping: I like to serve it layered because it looks so good, then stir everything together before drinking so you get coffee, butterscotch and cream in every sip.
Don't skip the nutmeg: You only need a pinch, but it adds a subtle warm spice that really works with the butterscotch and coffee flavors.
