Dog Days of Summer – Dog Motion Sickness

This blog post about dog motion sickness is brought you in collaboration with Cerenia . Thank you for supporting the destinations that support me

If you and your fur baby are anything like Beau and me, you are always up for an adventure! Whether it be a trip for a hike in the mountains or spending the day relaxing at the lake – you will know where to find us on a perfect summer day, on the open road! But all that isn’t to say it doesn’t come with a little bit of stress for the both of us because of dog motion sickness.

Dog Motion Sickness on a Road Trip

My sweet Beau gets anxious if we are driving for more than a few hours. He doesn’t always vomit (#blessed) but he does pant like crazy and paces around in the back seat. Sometimes he gets better if I leave the windows down, but sometimes the hot summer weather doesn’t allow for that to happen. I wish there was a way to tell him that we are on our way to have the best dog day in the sun ever because seeing him struggle makes me so sad! But, until modern technology creates something like that, I am at a crossroads with trying to soothe my little man.

Dog Days of Summer!

It is totally not his fault and I get that, but have you ever had trouble with your own doggo when it comes to traveling? It’s actually not uncommon at all! According to a recent study, around half of all dog owners admit that their dogs have some signs of motion sickness when it comes to driving for any amount of time in the car, or even being on a boat, train or plane. [i] And we have all been there – even though our pup is cute, cleaning up their mess sure is not. But, we love them all the same!

And I know that there are a bunch of old wives tales about how to help a dog out with motion sickness, but I have found something that can help Beau with vomiting due to motion sickness in Cerenia® (maropitant citrate). I went to the vet and described the symptoms that Beau was having and she prescribed Cerenia for him. Cerenia is the only FDA-approved medication that effectively prevents vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs. I give it to him before we leave and we BOTH now enjoy the long car ride a whole lot more.

But most importantly – please, please, please – discuss Cerenia for dog motion sickness with your vet first before giving your pup any kind of medication. 🙂

There is a quiz that you can take to see if Cerenia is a good option to discuss with your vet.

For those of you who are active and love to travel with your dogs – this may be a great option to keep in mind if they suffer from dog motion sickness like Beau. And although we may have to travel and leaving them at home isn’t an option, we want what is best for our pets and relief provided by Cerenia may be the answer. With the help of Cerenia, Beau arrives at our destination ready to take on the adventure.

With summer, comes road trips and travel to visit family…so before you leave make sure you stop by your vet and ask about Cerenia to help deal with vomiting due to dog motion sickness.

Hopefully our little recommendation will help you and your fur baby out this summer when it comes to your amazing road trips! Beau and I are sure glad we found Cerenia, now he’s straight chillin’ and waiting to go dive nose-first into the lake! And believe me…he doesn’t want to come out once he gets in. I love his zest for life!
