Northern Norway is a good place to visit at any time of the year. Everything depends on you. The land of the midnight sun provides 24 hours of light during the summer so that you can go for a walk or fishing at any time. Winter in the far north can be difficult, but worth the dark hours and cold. The area is famous for the northern lights, colorful lights that seem to dance in the night sky.

It was a long trip to get to the Lofoten Islands. Multiple flights and a full day of travel. It was early September when we visited and while the weather was cool, it wasn’t cold. Plus, there was still plenty of daylight hours this time of year…something that you need to consider when you travel in the north. Norway was so clean and full of breathtaking landscapes and we were lucky enough to see a lot of northern lights.

Lets talk about the aurora for a second. This was my first time ever seeing them and I was literally in awe. I have seen them a few times in other locations since this trip, but believe me the aurora never loses its magic when you see it.

If you want to see the beautiful northern lights while you are in Norway, there may be no better place than on the beautiful island of Senja. You can see my blog post about my stay at the Hamn i Senja HERE.

You stay in a charming hotel just behind the harbor of a picturesque bay where Aurora Borealis is often seen. Directly above the hotel is a hill with a magnificent view of the fjords and the Arctic sky, a “lighthouse” that gives you the opportunity to enjoy this spectacular natural phenomenon.

My favorite thing about Norway was all the views and epic scenery. I think everywhere we walked, hiked and drove by was so unique and beautiful. Norway definitely has a special place in my heart now. I would pack my bag and head there right now if i could! I would really love to go back when its snowing.

Northern Norway also had some of the yummiest food I have ever had. I tried whale and had the freshest fish a girl could ask for! I love trying local favourite foods when I visit new places.

The northern end of Ålesund could be far removed from the lights of the Norwegian metropolis, but it is rich in some of the best examples in the land of Art Nouveau architecture, a legacy of a major reconstruction project that emerged after a devastating fire in 1904 Situated on a peninsula with hooks, the city is today the base of Norway’s largest cod fishery. It is an attractive and lively town and, as expected, to taste seafood.
