Key West really is the “key” to a great time. Located in part of Florida Keys archipelago, it’s a beautiful island city painted with greenery, crystal clear waters, and vibrancy. On my recent trip I spent a day out on the water with Honest Eco Tours and I had the best time!

Key West is famous for its exciting diving and snorkeling experiences among the coral reefs where one can soak up the sun while exploring the beautiful world underneath the ocean’s surface.

Still, there’s even more to it than that, with lively nightlife, water sports, beaches, historic sites, and more to enjoy. There’s something for everyone in Key West – it instantly captured my interest and provided me with an unforgettable experience.

Honest Eco Tours

Honest Eco Tours, a tour company dedicated to environmentally friendly tours, was founded in 2014 by biologist Billy Litmer. I was intrigued by this tour company the moment I heard about it because of its eco-friendly approach to providing adventures for tourists.

There are many tours that Honest Eco Tours offers, each suited to a particular interest or group size. The first electric boat for the company was recently added to its ECO-friendly efforts, which is powered by BMW-engineered lithium-ion batteries.

These receive power from solar panels, and what’s more, is that the motor is virtually silent. The boat also has a narrow hull that produces nearly no wake, therefore avoiding disruption to marine life.

Blogger Bella Bucchiotti of xoxoBella.com shares about her trip to The Florida Keys and Key West. She went on a boat tour with Honest Eco Tours, ate some great food, went parasailing and lots more!

A special thank you to Brendan Williams for joining me on this trip and taking photos.

This new tour boat, Squid, is an absolute game-changer for sustainability and reducing negative impacts on the environment. With lowered engine noise and water pollution, it is the recommended choice for any traveller seeking to adventure in an environmentally-friendly way.

Kayak and Snorkel Tour

Personally, my favourite activity to do in Key West was the Kayak and Snorkel Tour, which I highly recommend if you ever visit Key West and want “test the waters.”

This tour takes you kayaking through the uninhabited Mangrove Islands, snorkeling in the calm Key West National Wildlife Refuge, and the tour concludes with a scenic sunset from the boat.

Throughout the experience, you can discover many different animal species (both underwater and above), explore the beautiful fish and corals, and along the way, you might learn a thing or two about the location.

The tour lasts for a total of four hours, so there is plenty of time to enjoy it. It is a small-group-guided tour and is best suited for couples or families, but if you’re a lone traveler, you won’t regret doing it, either.

One can also feel safe in the hands of Honest Eco, who strive to deliver on their purpose, continuously learning and pushing their company to be as ECO-friendly as possible. They are knowledgeable, dedicated, and passionate about what they do.

There’s no doubt that one will absolutely revel in the beauty and experiences Key West offers, but with the ECO-friendly approach that Honest Eco Tours adds, they transform a simple adventure into one that has a defined purpose – regardless of whether you intended it or not.

  1. I think that this looks so fun. I would love to do it but I am also oddly afraid of fish in real water. It would be a huge adventure for me.

  2. I was just looking at flights into Key West! Talk about perfect timing! Thanks so much for the recommendations.
