Our pets are more than just furry companions! Their quirky personalities can totally transform our lives. Ever notice how owners sometimes start to resemble their pets? Well, it goes deeper than that. Recently, pet owners across the globe hopped online to share the hilarious (and sometimes slightly weird) habits they picked up from their beloved animals. Get ready for some serious cuteness and maybe a few good laughs!

1. Meowing as a Human

It’s time for cat owners to come clean. If you can’t admit you meow approximately 500 times daily to yourself, you’re lying! Even the manliest man or the most extraordinary woman can’t help but succumb to the utter cuteness that is the meow. In addition, I know a few people who have gotten so good at meowing that they sound virtually undistinguishable from their furry friends!

2. Change How They Walk Around

One of the perils of owning a black cat isn’t dealing with constant bad luck; it’s being unable to see the little guys around the house when it’s dark! Fortunately, many owners have adapted and adjusted how they walk around to prioritize their cat’s safety. “I shuffle my feet around the house instead of walking normally when it’s dark so I don’t step on my small, black cat,” admits one caring cat owner.

3. Having Conversations With Their Dogs

Dogs are the best. Besides being eternally loyal and sweet, they will try their hardest to have full conversations with their owners. Predictably, this leads to many men and women picking up the ultimate quirky pet habit: Having entire conversations with their dogs! Of course, it involves a lot of barking and bark-adjacent sounds, including mumble-howling and what can best be described as “awoooawooo”-ing.

4. Reverse Fetching

Sometimes, the owner-pet relationship flips and makes us wonder who the pet and the human are! One pet owner knows this all too well: “I don’t know how I got to this point, but my dog will take a stick, run about 40 feet away from me, and drop the stick on the ground,” reveals one woman. “Then he’ll run back to me and fully expect me to fetch the stick myself. We have a weird relationship.” I don’t know if I should be laughing or concerned about this interesting development! We all know who wears the pants in that relationship!

5. Eating on the Pet’s Schedule

Pet owners have sadly come to a horrible realization countless times in human history: They no longer can eat on their own human schedule. Instead, they’re banished to an eternity of eating meals when their pets want them to. Countless people confess they begin preparing dinner when their dogs instruct them to, either through barking or gentle nudging toward the kitchen. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s true!

6. The Dry Heave Alarm

All pet owners know that once a dog or cat starts coughing, it’s only a matter of time before whatever they just ate comes back up! Of course, this necessitates an exit strategy. “I instinctively run toward the closest door whenever I hear my cat start dry-heaving,” confesses one man. “If I’m in the room when he throws something up, I’ll throw up, too.” I can relate to this, except I include all dry-heaving (regardless of species) as what makes my stomach turn into knots!

7. Changing How They Sleep

Cats are the most nonsensical animals in the world, and despite our objections, they can change how we sleep. Many men and women reveal they now need to sleep with their legs a cat’s-length apart because their feline friends consider that space the most comfortable to rest in! I know I’d wake up a dozen times a night if my pet slept between my legs but to each their own.

8. Stopping Work for the Day

Some of our pets are delightful, and they know we overwork ourselves. One family reveals that their workdays have been shortened lately due to the insistence of their loveable pup. “Since my husband started working from home, our dog barks his emergency bark at my husband if he tries working past four o’clock,” explains one woman. “My husband now has learned to stop working at about 3:50 every day to avoid that jarring sound.” I love that dog!

9. The Banana Tax

Countless people admit their snacking habits have changed since becoming pet owners. For many, the simple act of eating a morning banana now becomes a shareable experience with their furry friends. These owners call it the “banana tax” because for every bite of banana they take, they are obliged to give a piece of fruit to their dog, too!

10. Lots of Hugging

There are quirky habits and adorable habits; one woman confesses she developed one of the latter. “My dog Rusty always puts his front paws on me, and I always hug him, so now when he’s anxious, he’ll give me a hug, and I’ll hug him back.” How cute is that? If owning a pet leads you to dole out more hugs, I don’t think anyone is complaining (especially your pet).
