Curious about the history of this sweet treat? You might guess Oreos were the first sandwich cookie but another one became popular 4 years before Oreos were launched. That is Hydrox. Jacob Loose, an entrepreneur, bought a cookie and candy factory back in 1882.
He renamed it Sunshine Biscuits and launched Hydrox in 1908. It isn’t a catchy name for a cookie, especially considering there was a Hydrox chemical company around at the same time. Nabisco launched Oreos in 1912. Oreos became far more popular, although Hydrox were kosher. This cookie was discontinued in 1999.
