While all dogs are special, some breeds are known for their extraordinary devotion. They’re your sidekicks, your protectors, your furry shadows. If you’re looking for a true soul mate with paws, these loyal dog breeds are famous for their loyal hearts.

Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees is a breed of dog known for their amazing herding skills. These dogs are calm and intelligent with a huge protective instinct and they are extremely loyal to their human companions. 

Beagles

Beagles are great family dogs who love children and are fiercely loyal to their people. Beagles can, however, be a little challenging to train because they can be easily distracted by sights and smells.

Great Dane

These enormous dogs are lovable and fun and they love being around people, but sometimes they can forget how big and strong they actually are. They are always alert to potential danger and always willing to protect their family. 

Collie 

If you don’t mind a dog with long hair that sheds, a collie is one of the most loyal dog breeds there is. There’s a reason that Lassie was cast as a collie. Collies are wonderful with other animals and children and are devoted to their people. 

Doberman 

Dobermans are bred to look intimidating but in truth, they are great family pets that get along well with children and other animals. They are loyal and loving to their people, but may be stand-offish with strangers. 

German Shepherd

There is a good reason why so many law enforcement and military agencies use German shepherds and that is because they are highly intelligent, easy to train, and fiercely loyal to their families. German shepherds actually need a lot of socialization during their puppy years to ensure that they don’t become “too” overprotective of their people. 

Dachshund

Dachshunds are a smaller breed of dog that are very curious and affectionate. They will bark at people they don’t know or things that they feel may be a threat, and they love their family over anyone else. Dachshunds get along well with other dachshunds but they may not get along as well with other animals. 

Golden Retriever

Golden retrievers are smart, friendly, and devoted dogs who want to be your best friend and always near your side. This breed makes amazing therapy and emotional support animals, though they can sometimes be a little too friendly with strangers. 

Akita

The Akita is one of the most loyal dogs there is. These furry companions are fiercely loyal to their family and are naturally protective. They can however be stubborn and aren’t recommended for families with young children or first-time dog owners. 

Border Collie

Border collies are a breed of herding dogs that are loyal, obedient, and energetic. They want to be where you are and be doing what you are doing right alongside you. They do need lots of playtime to work some of their boundless energy out. 

American Staffordshire Terrier 

The American Staffordshire terrier or AmStaff for short is an extremely intelligent, protective, and loyal breed of dog. They love to be loved on and playing with their family. This bread can be strong and stubborn at times so it may not be the perfect breed for novice dog owners.
