While September is a time when many head back to school, it’s also about moving forward and self-improvement. For many, September is all about NEW! New month, new beginning, new mindset, new focus, new intentions and new results. I have some Best Buy gear and tips to help you take on September and the months ahead.
The right gear is all you need to do your best work, and ultimately, work towards being your best self! In 2018, a workspace is more of a fluid concept: it can be a corner in your home, a coffee shop or even a park bench – as long as you have the gear to get the job done. Am I right?!? Thanks to Best Buy Canada, it is easy to set yourself up for any work or homework situation.
Each workspace will be unique as far as productivity, motivation and performance are concerned. Finding a quiet workspace with reliable Internet is probably the most crucial aspect of getting work done but don’t underestimate perks like coffee, snacks or air conditioning.
For me, I am usually found working in my home, at a coffee shop, on the road or in a place that inspires me.
Working at Home
When I am not traveling this is the most common place for me to be working in the early mornings and late into the evening. I have my desk set up with all that I need for maximum productivity. Everything is at my fingertips…so there should be no excuses.
The main elements to my home workspace are a HP Pavillion desktop computer with a 28” Samsung monitor, Bose Multimedia speakers and a HP Envy wireless all-in-one printer. I picked up all these items at Best Buy Canada when I first moved into my new condo. I have my desk set up by the windows so that I have good natural light and fresh air. I totally feel unmotivated to work when I am in a desk that faces a wall.
Sometimes it is nice to step away from the desk and work in bed with my sweet little pup Beau or at my kitchen table. I have a Targus Mouse Pad Lap Desk that I love plus Jabra Elite noise cancelling wireless headphones are a complete MUST! Noise cancelling headphones can make a world of difference when trying to focus or have a conference call.
For a laptop I recently went with a larger Dell G3 17” laptop . I used to have a light, compact Apple MacBook Air 13” laptop which I loved because it is was so easy to carry around. However, since I use my laptop so much I decided to get a 17” which is much easier on my eyes for long work sessions and makes editing photos a lot easier.
Seriously…my dog is so stinking cute!! I heart Beau!
Coffee Shop Work Session
Some days a change of scenery is in order. For me, I like to get out to a coffee shop for a few hours or even an afternoon to work. I usually pack light with my HP laptop and my Jabra noise cancelling wireless headphones.
Keeping Busy on the Road
Whether on a road trip, commuting or on a plane, working on the go is a great way to get stuff done and pass the time. Similar to what I use at the coffee shop, I take out my Dell laptop and my Jabra noise cancelling wireless headphones.
Working to Stay Inspired
On the nicer days, sometimes fresh air and some inspiring scenery is in order. Whether it is from my blanket at the beach, a park bench or a log…any place can be a workspace. You just need to get creative. It’s a bonus is you find Wifi but plan your work accordingly if that won’t be the case.
Other Tips for Productivity
Don’t forget to hydrate. Drinking water all day helps you in so many ways. Plus, sometimes getting up to stretch for bathroom break or water fill break is often much needed.
Power your body with healthy snacks. Forgo the chips and cookies and pack some fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts to help you fight off hunger while you get stuff done.
Lastly, my final tip is to power your brain with activity. Get up and get a half hour or more of exercise. Your body and mind will thank you!
Where do you like to work? How do you set up your workspace? How are you going to put your best foot forward this fall?
