Lots of things have changed since the 1980s, some for the better and others not. Technology has come on leaps and bounds and there are plenty of common things we say today which would confuse someone in the ‘80s. Whether you were a kid or a grownup (or even not yet born!) 3 decades ago, take a look at this list of sayings you often hear today but would have made zero sense back then. What are the things no one said in the 80s?

Back in the 80s, the internet was still a far-off dream, and the idea of needing a wifi password was unheard of. Nowadays, asking for a wifi password is as common as asking for a cup of coffee.

In the age of instant messaging and texting, it’s hard to imagine when people communicated via snail mail or landline phones. The idea of sending a private message to someone online would have been completely foreign in the 80s.

The concept of streaming movies and TV shows on-demand from the comfort of your home was non-existent in the 80s. The closest thing was renting a VHS tape from the video store and hoping it wasn’t already checked out.

With the advent of smartphones and constant connectivity, it’s hard to imagine a time when losing reception was a common occurrence. In the 80s, people relied on landline phones and had to deal with the occasional dropped call or static.

Selfies and selfie captions have become a ubiquitous part of modern culture, but in the 80s, the idea of taking a self-portrait was limited to Polaroid cameras or the occasional family portrait.

Online dating and social media have revolutionized the way people connect and form relationships. In the 80s, meeting someone online would have been impossible, as the internet was still in its infancy.

The concept of “first-world problems” has become a meme and a cultural phenomenon in recent years, but in the 80s, people were more concerned with basic needs like food, shelter, and safety.

Ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft have made getting around town easier than ever, but in the 80s, people relied on taxis, public transportation, or their own cars to get from point A to point B.

Fear of missing out has become a common feeling in the age of social media and constant connectivity. In the 80s, people were more concerned with missing out on important news or events due to limited access to information.
