Why Use Beer in this Game Day Appy

Beer is a great ingredient to use when making batter or breading before frying. The bubbles in the beer add lightness as well as body to the batter. Some recipes call for soda water or a similar carbonated drink but beer does the same thing. Oh, and it adds a delicious flavour too!

Everything Bagel Beer Dogs FAQs

How do you store leftovers?

This appetizer or finger food will keep for a few days in the refrigerator but they won’t be as good as when served fresh. The batter won’t be as crisp or soft. They will still be good, but I’d recommend enjoying these on the day you make them. If you have friends coming over, this is a great game day appy and they’ll disappear fast.

What other dipping sauce would work with these?

Not a fan of horseradish, mustard or one of the other sauce ingredients? You can serve these with any dipping sauce you want or offer several at the table so people can choose their own. Anything from sweet mustard to ketchup or BBQ sauce would work. For a spicier kick, try chilli sauce or add some hot sauce to the easy horseradish mayo dipping sauce.

What else are corn dogs known as?

In Quebec, Canada, they’re known as pogos! The rest of Canada and the whole of the United States knows this special snack as the corn dog.

Everything Bagel Beer Dogs with Dipping Sauce

Everything bagel beer dogs are a great game day appy. Cocktail weenies are coated in a tasty coating and then served with an easy horseradish mayo dipping sauce. If you are looking for an appetizer or finger food recipe, this one is sure to have rave reviews!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 4 minutes
Total Time: 14 minutes
Servings: 25 mini dogs

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Heat canola oil in a Dutch oven or stockpot to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine wheat beer, eggs, flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until smooth.
  • Pierce cocktail weenies with a skewer to easily dip into the batter. Allow excess batter to drip off, then carefully add to the hot oil. Fry for 4 minutes, or until golden brown. *I worked in batches of 5 at a time. It is important not to overcrowd them or allow the batter to touch as they will stick. Batch size will depend on the size of the pot.*
  • Once breading is golden brown remove from oil and rest on a wire rack lined baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning before oil dries so that it will stick.
  • Prepare the dip. Combine ketchup, mayo, horseradish, and dijon mustard in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
