Eye-catching presentation: A festive red, white and blue look everyone will notice.
Naturally sweet and savory: Combines fruit and cheese for a balanced bite.
Perfect for holidays: Great for patriotic celebrations and warm-weather gatherings.

Patriotic Fruit and Cheese Platter Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Fresh strawberries: Juicy and vibrant, used to create the red stripes. I used about 4 containers, as there always seems to be at least a few bad ones in each and you’ll want picture-perfect berries for your American flag cheese tray! This also means you can refill the platter when it’s getting depleted.
Fresh blueberries: Sweet, deep blue berries that represent the stars.
White cheddar cheese: Sharp and creamy, forming the white stripes in the design.

Wash and dry fruit: Clean all berries thoroughly and let them dry before assembling.
Prep the strawberries: Hull and slice or pull the stems from each berry.
Set up the blueberry section: Place blueberries in a white bowl and position it in the top corner of a food safe platter (this is the one I used!)
Create red stripes: Line up double rows of strawberries in three evenly spaced bands across the board.
Add cheese stripes: Slice white cheddar into ¼-inch pieces, then stack and arrange to fill the white space between the berry lines.
Substitutions and Variations
Use different cheese: Try mozzarella, Monterey Jack, Swiss cheese, or Havarti for a different flavor. You could also roll cream cheese with shredded cheese to make delicious mini cheese balls.
No cheese: Substitute other white foods in the white section, such as white chocolate covered pretzels, white chocolate covered almonds, white marshmallows, or white candies for the cheese. You could also use light colored nuts.
Blueberries: Other blue foods you can use in place of blueberries include blue tortilla chips and blue candies. Another idea is to use a blue bowl and use candies that look like white stars, or use a star cookie cutter to cut your own star shapes from pastry dough, marzipan or anything else you like.
Strawberries: Other red foods you can use instead include cherries, raspberries, cherry tomatoes, or veggies such as red peppers.
Add cured meats: Pink-colored deli meats would also work in the red layer, perhaps salami or ham.
Add a sweet dip: Serve with honey (or homemade hot honey!) or fruit dip on the side for extra flavor.
Make it a dessert board: Swap cheddar for pound cake cubes and add chocolate drizzle for a sweet patriotic charcuterie board.
Fill the empty spaces: You don’t have to do this but if you want to fill the empty spaces between the strawberries and cheese, you can add red and white candies or sliced, marinated mozzarella pearls.
Serving Suggestions
With savory snacks: Serve snacks like steak and mushroom bruschetta, spicy dill pickles, cowboy sliders, or chips with your favorite dip recipes. You might like to serve club crackers or rosemary crackers on the side in case people want some with their cheese.
With sweet treats: Serve berry parfaits or blueberry lemonade popsicles too.
How to Store an American Flag Charcuterie Board
Store: This Labor Day or 4th of July charcuterie board is best served fresh but you can cover any leftovers in plastic wrap and refrigerate them. Use within a day or two.
Freeze: This recipe isn’t suitable for freezing.
Top Tips
Keep your lines straight: Even spacing makes the flag look more polished.
Use chilled fruit and cheese: Keeps the board fresh and helps it hold shape.
Dry the fruit thoroughly: This prevents extra moisture from affecting the cheese or board.
Cut uniform slices: Even cheese pieces create a cleaner appearance.
Serve on a light-colored tray: This makes the colors pop and enhances the visual appeal.
Red, White and Blue July 4th Charcuterie Board FAQs
Yes, assemble it a few hours in advance and keep it covered in the fridge.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. You might have to lift the strawberries a little to get the cheese to fit into place.
A white bowl helps maintain the flag design, but any small dish will work.
I find they stay fresher if you just remove the stalks instead of slicing the berries. Also, slicing them would release juice which would make the cheese gooey. And lastly, removing the stalks makes this a great finger food dish, as nobody will be left holding stalks.
