Why You’ll Love It

Unusual: This isn’t your usual nacho fries dish. Rather than tortilla chips, which are the most common base for nachos, this recipe is based on potato wedges, also known as steak fries, and the truffle-infused hot sauce adds a creative, special element to the flavor profile.
Tasty: If you like wedges, steak, and cheese, you’re absolutely going to enjoy this distinctive take on classic nachos. One thing this isn’t lacking is plenty of flavors, and you’ll want to make these nacho fries more than once, guaranteed!
Easy:  It’s not difficult to make loaded Truff nacho fries. You need to bake the wedges, cook the steak, assemble the Taco Bell nacho fries, add cheese sauce, and more.

Prepare and cook the wedge fries: Toss the fries with truffle oil, taco seasoning, and a little truffle salt, then spread over a greased, wire rack-lined baking sheet, and bake until done.
Cook the strip steak: Use truffle salt, regular salt, and black pepper to season the steak and sear in a hot skillet, then let it rest for a few minutes before thinly slicing it.
Prepare the nacho cheese sauce: Warm the cheese sauce in a microwave.
Assemble the dish: Lay out the wedges and drizzle the warm cheese sauce on top and the Truff sauce.
Finish it off and serve: Finally, add shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and cilantro on top of the nacho fries, and serve right away.

Substitutions and Variations

Fries: Although this recipe is great with wedges or thick-cut steak fries, you could use regular fries or even shoestring fries if that’s your preference. Or swap the fries for tortilla chips if you want a more traditional nachos recipe.
Steak: Use another cut of steak or even leftover roasted chicken instead of steak on this one.
Add sour cream: You might also want to serve sour cream with this since it will go well with the nachos and steak and also contrast with the hot sauce. You can use reduced-fat sour cream if you prefer.

Serving Suggestions

Side dishes: This is a meal in one since the loaded nacho fries include potatoes, steak, vegetables, cheese, and more. But if you want to pair it with something or you’re feeding a crowd, how about Tex Mex chicken pasta salad or even some smoked elote (Mexican street corn)?
Dessert: Just because this is a complete meal doesn’t mean it has to stop there. Maybe keep the south-of-the-border theme going by having Mexican rice pudding for dessert and a glass of homemade horchata (or rum and red wine sangria!)

How to Store Loaded Fries with Warm Nacho Cheese Sauce

Store: Keep any Taco Bell Truff sauce nachos leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and eat within two days.
Freeze: This isn’t a great dish to freeze because of the fresh tomatoes and cheese sauce.

Top Tips

Don’t skip the sear: Ensure your skillet is lightly greased and very hot before adding the steak. You want to “sear” it so it ends up with that lovely crust on the outside.
Use Truff brand hot sauce: Because it’s flavored with black truffle, this is the best choice for making Taco Bell style loaded fries.
Save some time: If you have leftover grilled marinated steak or another kind, you can use that instead of cooking steak from scratch.

Loaded Truff Nacho Fries FAQs

What is Truff hot sauce?

Truff is a brand that makes a variety of hot sauces. Their black truffle-infused hot sauce tastes so good and works perfectly in this loaded Truff nacho fries dish. You can buy Truff hot sauce on Amazon. Bear in mind this sauce ranges from hot to hotter, so pick the one you prefer based on how much heat you prefer from your hot sauce.

How do you know when the steak is done?

It should take about 4 minutes per side to come out juicy and medium rare, but you can cook it less or more depending on how you like your steak. Also, it might take longer if it’s a thick steak or vice versa.

Truffle Steak Nacho Fries – Taco Bell Copycat

You will love these Taco Bell truffle nacho loaded fries. This Taco Bell copycat is made with thick cut fries, strip steak, cheese, and more.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 28 Ounces fries, frozen, wedge or thick-cut steak fries
  • 2 Tablespoons truffle oil
  • 2 Tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons truffle salt
  • 1 Pound steak, New York strip, 1-inch thick
  • ¼ Teaspoon salt
  • ¼ Teaspoon black pepper
  • Cup nacho cheese
  • Truff hot sauce, to taste
  • 4 Pounds cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • ½ Cup tomatoes, freshly diced
  • cilantro, for a garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Add fries to a large mixing bowl. Combine with truffle oil, 1 ½ Tablespoons of the taco seasoning, and 1 Tablespoon of the truffle salt. Toss to coat.
  • Spray a wire rack lined baking sheet with non stick cooking oil. Add fries and spread evenly. Place into the oven on the center rack and bake according to instructions on the package (about 18 minutes).
  • Meanwhile, heat a skillet over high heat.
  • Season the steak with salt, pepper, and remaining truffle salt. Add to the skillet and sear for 4 minutes per side. Remove and rest 5 minutes on a wooden cutting board. Use a meat thermometer to determine steaks internal temperature and do not go off cooking times solely. For me, 4 minutes per side provided medium rare steak. Cooking times will vary depending on the pan, heat source, steak temperature prior to cooking, steak thickness.
  • Thinly slice steak across the grain.
  • Remove fries from the oven and add to your serving tray.
  • Warm the nacho cheese sauce slightly in the microwave.
  • Drizzle the fries with nacho cheese sauce and Truff hot sauce.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese and diced tomatoes over the top.
  • Garnish with cilantro if desired.

Notes

Don’t skip the sear: Ensure your skillet is lightly greased and very hot before adding the steak. You want to “sear” it so it ends up with that lovely crust on the outside.
Use Truff brand hot sauce: Because it’s flavored with black truffle, this is the best choice for making Taco Bell style loaded fries.
Save some time: If you have leftover grilled marinated steak or another kind, you can use that instead of cooking steak from scratch.
