This citrusy, fruity drink is so delicious. You’ll want to make it for St Patrick’s Day, over the Christmas holidays and for any other occasion that comes along!

If this tasty cocktail appeals to you, you might also like to try holiday margaritas, homemade limoncello or one of these fun frozen drinks.

You will need pineapple, orange and lemon juices. I recommend using freshly squeezed juice if possible because it just makes the finished Grinch green Christmas cocktail all the more delicious. It’s best to use orange juice without pulp (or strain your own) so the cocktail is smooth.

Melon liqueur (Midori or another kind) go into the drink as well as watermelon rum. Then you need blue curacao. Melon balls and a sprig of mint make a cute garnish for this melon Grinch green cocktail. If you prefer a green and red theme, which is also very festive, sub a maraschino cherry for the sprig of mint.

Dr Seuss’s character of The Grinch is behind the name of this green holiday drink. There are various Grinch green Christmas cocktails to make, but this melon cocktail is especially delicious.

The wonderful mixture of watermelon rum, melon liqueur, and blue curacao with pineapple, orange, and lemon juices makes the cocktail light and refreshing. This means it’s perfect to serve before dinner. Save those rich and creamy cocktails for after dinner when people want something more dessert-like!

How to Make Melon Grinch Green Cocktail

Shake the watermelon rum, melon liqueur and blue Curaçao with the pineapple, orange and lemon juices and ice cubes. Dip the rim of your glass in lemon juice or wipe a lemon wedge around it, then rotate in the sanding sugar to coat the rim.

Sanding sugar is very fine sugar and it’s made that way so it sticks to glass rims more easily. A sugar rim is optional in cocktails so if you don’t have sanding sugar or don’t want to make a sugar rim, you don’t have to.

Now pour the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with melon balls and a mint sprig if you like.

Can You Make Grinch Green Christmas Cocktail Ahead?

Prefer to make a batch of this at once and make it in advance? That will work. It keeps in the refrigerator. Drink it within 2 days and don’t forget to give it a good shake before serving, since the ingredients will separate over time.

You can also make a batch of this the grinch cocktail with blue curacao (or without!) recipe and keep it in a pitcher for an hour in the refrigerator. Then all you need to do is divide it between sugar-rimmed serving glasses and add the melon balls and mint sprigs if using. This green holiday drink is really pretty and you’ll find nobody turns down a chilled glass of this.

What is Blue Curacao?

This blue-coloured alcoholic drink is a liqueur made from the skin of dried Laraha fruits, a type of citrus.

These fruits grown on the island of Curaçao, one of the Dutch Antilles.

So why is it blue? Well that actually comes from blue food colouring. You can sub Triple Sec for Blue Curaçao in recipes calling for it since they are also orange-type liqueurs.

Blue Curaçao (pronounced cure-uh-SOW) is slightly bitter and slightly sweet. It is great in this melon Grinch green cocktail because it bridges the bitter lemon flavour and the very sweet melon taste. The blue lagoon and bluebird are probably the best-known cocktails made with this ingredient, although this tasty melon cocktail is rapidly catching up!
