Why You’ll Love It
Quick and simple: Just toss everything in a blender and serve.
Fruity and fresh: Real honeydew melon gives it a sweet, juicy flavor.
Perfect for summer: Cool, slushy and just right for hot weather.
Crowd-pleaser: Great for any occasion such as parties, BBQs or lazy afternoons.
Honeydew Melon Margarita Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Honeydew melon: Adds fresh, juicy sweetness and a beautiful green color. You can also use frozen honeydew melon and reduce the ice by half a cup.
Lime juice: Brings tartness to balance the sweetness of the melon and sugar.
Tequila: Provides a classic margarita kick with a smooth finish.
Granulated sugar: Sweetens the drink just enough without overpowering. I recommend you start with ¼ cup sugar and taste to see if you need more. Some honeydew melons are very sweet and others are more mild in flavor so adjust accordingly.
Ice: Creates the slushy texture that makes this margarita so refreshing.

Blend the ingredients: Combine honeydew, lime juice, tequila, sugar and ice in a blender until slushy.
Prepare the glasses: Rub a lime wedge around the rim and dip in salt.
Pour and garnish: Fill the glasses with the frozen margarita and top with a lime wedge.
Substitutions and Variations
Use other fruit: Swap honeydew for cantaloupe or watermelon.
Make it non-alcoholic: Omit tequila and use a splash of sparkling water or lemonade.
Add herbs: Blend in a few mint leaves for a fresh twist.
Rim with sugar instead of salt: For a sweeter finish on the glass.
Serving Suggestions
With snacks: Mexican ceviche goes especially well with this cocktail, or you could whip up some crispy turkey tacos or seared steak nachos.
With something sweet: Pair your melon margaritas with watermelon boba popsicles or lemon pizzelle cookies.
How to Store Honeydew Margarita
Store: Keep it covered and refrigerated and serve within 1 to 2 days for the freshest flavor. Don’t rim the glasses or add the garnish until ready to serve.
Freeze: Another idea is freezing it and then you can either let it thaw a bit and mix or serve it frozen after a quick pulse in the blender.
Top Tips
Use ripe honeydew: It should be sweet and fragrant for the best flavor.
Chill your glasses: Helps keep the slush icy longer.
Adjust sweetness: Taste before serving and add more sugar if needed.
Serve immediately: Frozen drinks melt fast, so enjoy it right away.
Honeydew Melon Margarita FAQs
No, a blender is needed to get the slushy texture.
Honeydew melons are a sweet and tasty melon that can be oval or round. They can weigh up to 8 pounds. The flesh is green right below the skin and fades to pale green further in. These melons may soften after picking but they won’t sweeten any more. This fantastic fruit features in various recipes from fruit salad to chilled soups. Of course making a margarita with melon is also a great reason for buying one. I like melon for breakfast too – either added to cereal or mixed up in a smoothie!
The honeydew is a White Antibes cultivar which was first grown in the south of France and Algeria in the late 1400s. One of these melons was served at a restaurant in New York in 1911. A guest saved a seed and sent it to a plant breeder in Colorado. The USDA renamed the melon to honeydew in 1915. These melons grow well in a dry, hot climate.
