The apple cinnamon muffins are made with flour, oats, baking powder, sugar, eggs, and butter. You will also need cinnamon, milk, and of course the fresh apples. I typically use Macintosh apples but you can use any kind you want in an apple crumble muffins recipe. Granny Smith apples or Fuji apples also work well.

Tips and Variations

What else can you change? Well I haven’t tried this with pears instead of apples but I’m sure that would work. Also swap half the cinnamon for nutmeg if you like. These warm fall spices are similar. Ground cloves and allspice would suit these apple strudel muffins too but just a pinch. A little goes a long way! Apple recipes like this one are easy to swap in pears instead.

Use any kind of milk to make these apple cinnamon crumb muffins, even a non-dairy kind if you want. You can use either white or brown sugar in the muffin batter. I usually use brown sugar in the topping but you can switch that for white if you like.

Finally, for the icing, you will need powdered sugar. This is also known as icing sugar or confectioner’s sugar. Don’t swap this for granular sugar else it will make the icing grainy and that’s not what you want.

Storing muffins is not the same as storing cake. The moisture will come to the surface of muffins over time. This means if they’re wrapped in plastic and the moisture is unable to evaporate, it will soak back into the muffin.
