Valentine Brownies Ingredients

This chocolate Valentine’s Day dessert calls for simple ingredients you probably already have. You are going to need oil, cocoa powder, sugar, eggs, vanilla, flour, salt, milk or semi sweet chocolate chips, and sprinkles. You don’t need much to make these delicious brownies.

Without the sprinkles these brownies for Valentine’s Day would be great for any occasion. But adding heart shaped sprinkles adds that sweet romantic touch! You can get heart shaped sprinkles on Amazon to make this chocolate Valentine’s Day dessert as cute as possible.

Use olive, canola or vegetable oil to make the brownies. Unlike butter, oil has a neutral taste which means the chocolate flavour will really shine. In fact, unless a recipe calls for something to leaven it like yeast, baking powder or baking soda, you will find butter and oil interchangeable.

Oil doesn’t make a recipe rise like butter (creamed with sugar) can so it’s perfect for extra fudgey chocolate brownies when the fudge texture is better than a cake-like texture.

As for the chocolate chips, use any kind you want – semisweet, dark or even white. The vanilla extract should be natural, not synthetic, for the nicest flavour.

How to Make Valentine Brownies

This sweet Valentine treat is a breeze to prepare. Whisk the oil with the cocoa powder in one bowl and mix the sugar and eggs in another. Stir the vanilla extract into the egg mixture and then combine the oil and cocoa powder with the egg mixture.

Mix the flour and salt and add those to the bowl and then you can add in the chocolate chips. Next pour the mixture into a parchment paper lined baking tin and add the sprinkles on top.

Remember you can use any kind of sprinkles you want. I do like heart shaped sprinkles on these brownies for Valentine’s Day but plain red, pink and white ones would also work on fudgey chocolate brownies.

Bake these sweet treats for about half an hour or until you can insert a toothpick or a thin knife blade into the middle and it comes out more or less clean. Remember these are extra fudgey chocolate brownies so there should still be a little brownie batter sticking to the toothpick.

No mixture means they are overcooked and you won’t have that fudgey texture inside. This sweet Valentine treat will still taste good but they’re better fudgey! When the edges begin to pull away from the pan edges and the middle looks cooked, you will know the brownies are done.

How to Store Valentine Brownies

Let the brownies cool completely in the pan. You can keep the fudgy brownies overnight in an airtight container or you can wrap foil or plastic wrap over the baking pan. You don’t have to cut them first. In fact, they will stay more moist if you don’t. This is important if you want chewy brownies. Once the brownies cool, you can cut with a sharp knife just prior to serving. Just a few easy steps to the perfect Valentine brownies.

You can freeze these brownies for Valentine’s Day too. Wrap them in foil and plastic wrap. This Valentine brownies recipe will keep up to 4 months this way.

How to Serve Them

Serve these fudgey brownies for a Valentine’s Day treat any way you like. They’re great as they are or you could serve them with vanilla ice cream and chocolate, caramel or strawberry sauce on top. Cut heart shaped brownies after they cool completely if you want or consider a brownie ice cream sandwich. Brownie hearts make a cute presentation. See how versatile these fudgey chocolate brownies are!

More Ideas for Decorating Them

Not keen on the red and pink heart idea? Red and pink mini M&Ms would also work or you could use edible stars or any kind of sprinkles. If you plan to serve ice cream or whipped cream on top, save the garnish to go on top of that instead of on the actual brownies.

It’s just as easy to make brownies for Valentine’s Day from scratch as making a boxed mix. These taste fresher and better than any boxed mix I’ve tried.
