How to Store Pineapple Rum Baked Ham

Store: Store leftover ham in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer: May be frozen for up to 3 months. Freeze it in slices or as a whole ham.
Thaw: Defrost the ham in the refrigerator for 24 hours for every 4 to 5 pounds of ham, ensuring it’s completely defrosted before cooking
Reheat: Reheat the ham in a 300°F oven, loosely covered with foil, until warmed through, approximately 10 to 15 minutes per pound.

Top Tips

Score the ham: Lightly score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern before applying the glaze to help it penetrate and caramelize better.
Rest before carving: Let the rum glazed ham recipe rest for 10 to 15 minutes after baking to allow the juices to redistribute, making it easier to carve and more tender.
Use a meat thermometer: Ensure the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F for optimal warmth and safety.
Baste with the glaze: The glaze will be thick and as it cooks on the ham some may run off. Just keep spooning the remaining glaze back over the ham every 20 minutes.
Wait to slice it: Don’t slice your ham until everyone is ready to eat. This will keep the moisture all locked inside.

Glazed Holiday Ham FAQs

Can I use fresh pineapple on my ham?

It is best not to. The enzymes (bromelain) of the fresh pineapple can make the ham mushy.

How long do I bake my ham?

Generally it is 15 minutes per pound.  Ham is already cooked, so as long as the center is warm you should be just fine.

How can I prevent my ham from drying out?

Baste the ham with its own juices or additional glaze every 15 to 20 minutes to keep it moist and flavorful.

We made this for our early family Thanksgiving (Canada) and it was delish! I would never have thought to put cherries but it was the perfect touch.
