Holiday Cocktail Changes and Variations

Raspberry liqueur, something like Chambord, can be used in place of the raspberry syrup although it tends to curdle with the dairy so I’d recommend not using it. The raspberry flavour is good in these Christmas cookie shots though, and makes these tasty shots reminiscent of raspberry-filled linzer cookies, hence the name. Raspberry syrup is also good in coffee and the Torani one is probably the easiest to find.

There are different brands of Amaretto liqueur to choose from. Also, you could swap the RumChata for Licor 43 horchata, which is also dairy-free. With a bottle of RumChata there are so many delicious RumChata drinks you can make, so it is a great purchase.

As for the garnish for these festive drinks, you might like to add candy canes or another festive decoration. If raspberries aren’t in season, you could use a linzer cookie to garnish this Christmas shot recipe instead. Or, if you’re feeling indulgent, both! Nobody is going to decline a cookie with their holiday drinks!

Linzer Cookies: What are They?

Linzer cookies are an Austrian cookie with nuts and fruit preserves. The name comes from Linz, the name of a city in Austria. You can usually find them at German bakeries. Else you can even make your own with this Linzer cookies recipe, which is gluten-free as a bonus.

Since this Christmas drink with RumChata contains dairy as well as acidity from the syrup they don’t take long to separate. So with this holiday shots recipe it’s best to serve them as soon as you’ve made them.

I like to serve these festive shots as soon as holiday party guests arrive as a kind of welcome. They’re also great with dessert (perhaps something fruit-based) on a special occasion. Easy buffet nibbles pair well too, such as pesto Christmas tree snacks or bloody mary devilled eggs pair well with this Christmas cocktail recipe.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • ice
  • 2 Ounces amaretto, such as di Amore Amaretto
  • 2 Ounces RumChata
  • 1 Ounce whole milk
  • 1 Teaspoons raspberry syrup, such as Torani Raspberry Flavoring Syrup
  • 2 raspberries, for garnish, optional
  • 2 Sprigs mint, for garnish, optional
  • 2 Teaspoons powdered sugar, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker about halfway with ice. Add amaretto, RumChata, milk, and raspberry syrup. Replace lid and shake for about 20 seconds or until chilled through. Divide between two 2½-ounce shot glasses.
  • Skewer a fresh raspberry with a cocktail pick and place it across the rim of one of the filled shot glasses. Add a mint sprig and finally, using a strainer or confectioners’ sugar shaker, dust the top of the shot. Repeat for the second shot.

Notes

These shots are best served immediately due to their dairy content and the slight acidity of the raspberry syrup, which can cause separation over time.
