Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree Materials and Ingredients

A complete list of materials and amounts can be found in the tutorial card below.

Ferrero Rocher chocolates: Golden wrapped hazelnut truffles that create the tree’s shimmering “foliage.”
Foam cone: Lightweight form that sets the height and shape for clean rows. (I used 4-inch cones, you could use these Styrofoam cones).
Toothpicks or mini glue dots: Low mess anchors that hold each candy without crushing. (I like these glue dots).
Ribbon: A neat spiral wrap that hides the cone and frames the gold wrappers.
Star topper or bow: Finishes the peak for a polished, photo ready look.
Mini ornaments or floral picks: Fill small gaps and add festive sparkle where needed.
Cake board or sturdy plate: Stable base that makes moving the tree easy.
Clear cellophane and twine, optional: Wraps the tree for gifting without smudging wrappers.

Substitutions and Variations

Gluten free option: Use wrapped gluten free truffles or caramels in place of Ferrero Rocher.
Nut free swap: Choose nut free foil wrapped chocolates so everyone can enjoy.
All gold or mixed metals: Stick to gold for classic shine or mix silver and rose gold for contrast.
Chocolate alternatives: Anything wrapped will work, so you’re keeping the glue away from the actual chocolate. Lindt chocolate truffles would be good here and they come in different flavors.
Light it up: Battery LED micro lights add a gentle glow that threads between rows without heat.

Usage and Serving Suggestions

As a gift: These make gorgeous gifts and they’re so much more thoughtful than simply gifting a box of chocolates. They’re a great Christmas hostess gift and you could pair them with other gifts, such as a dried orange garland or crochet star garland, bath bombs and shower steamers, or candle sweater cozies.
For dessert: Present these as dessert after your Christmas dinner.
As decoration: Make several small cones at different heights for a tiered mantel display or festive table centerpiece.

How to Store Chocolate Christmas Trees

Store: These will keep for as long as the chocolates, so check the container for the “use by” date. If it’s hot in your house, you can keep these refrigerated. Otherwise, they’re fine at room temperature.
Freeze: You could freeze these but there’s no need really, as the chocolates keep for months (and freezing might affect the glue).

Top Tips

Test the anchor: Push a toothpick in at a slight upward angle for a firm hold.
Mind the spacing: Stagger candies like bricks to avoid visible seams.
Count before you start: Estimate by dry fitting one full row, then multiply by row count.
Protect the wrappers: Handle at the paper tab to keep the gold foil pristine.

DIY Gift Made with Ferrero Rocher Chocolates FAQs

How do I disguise the Styrofoam cone beneath the Ferrero Rocher chocolates?

Because Ferrero Rocher chocolates are round in shape, you might be able to see some of the cone beneath it. To hide this, you can either fluff out the wrappers to hide it or else paint it green before you start to stick the chocolate truffles on to it.

How else can I decorate a Ferrero Rocher tree?

A tied red ribbon on top adds a lovely festive touch and of course this is a very creative way to gift chocolate. Another idea would be adding a Christmas star shape on top and you can cut out your own from a piece of paper and make it either white or yellow. You could even glue some gold or silver glitter to it for a Christmassy touch, or maybe green and red. Another idea is battery LED micro lights for a gentle glow that threads between rows without heat. Weave battery lights shallowly (if using) so you don’t pierce the wire.

Homemade Ferrero Rocher Christmas Tree

This festive build turns a simple cone and wrapped chocolates into a sparkling sculpture. Make a homemade Ferrero Rocher Christmas tree when you want maximum wow with few steps.
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 4 trees

Equipment

Supplies

  • 64 Ferrero Rocher chocolates
  • 4 paper mache cones, 4-inch
  • red ribbon

Instructions

  • Preheat the hot glue gun.
  • Keep all of the Ferrero Rocher chocolates in their wrappers and paper cups. If any of the candies feel like they are loose and coming off of the paper cup, lightly glue them back into the paper cups.
  • Apply a dot of hot glue to the bottom side of a Ferrero Rocher. Adhere the candy to the base of the tree form.
  • Continue gluing the chocolates around the tree form eventually working your way up to the top. You'll use 16 chocolates per tree.
  • For the candy that goes on the very top, use a skewer to poke a small hole in the bottom of the candy. Add a little circle of hot glue around the outside of that hole. Place the candy on the pointy tip of the tree form, pressing down as far as needed.
  • Create a bow with the red ribbon. Add a small dot of glue on the back of the bow and adhere to the top of the candy tree.

Notes

Test the anchor: Push a toothpick in at a slight upward angle for a firm hold.
Mind the spacing: Stagger candies like bricks to avoid visible seams.
Count before you start: Estimate by dry fitting one full row, then multiply by row count.
Protect the wrappers: Handle at the paper tab to keep the gold foil pristine.
