TikTok Salmon Rice Bowl Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Salmon filets: Use boneless, skinless salmon filets.
Fluffy rice: The basis of the dish. I use white rice but brown rice or jasmine rice would work.
Vegetables: Cucumbers, green onions and pickled red onions add color and flavor. Feel free to use any other veggies you want, either raw or cooked.
Hot sauce: Sweet chili sauce and sriracha both feature in the spicy mayo. Sweet chili sauce adds heat with a sweet element which sriracha also adds heat but with a savory flavor.
Spices: Paprika, ancho chili powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper add a lot of amazing flavor to the fish.
Lime juice: For a tangy touch.
Coconut oil: To cook the salmon. Use any kind of oil you want, such as olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil or something else.

Substitutions and Variations
Gluten-free option: If you want a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour instead of wheat flour, and make sure you’re using gluten-free soy sauce, not the kind that has wheat.
Dairy-free version: Use a vegan-friendly mayonnaise and the whole recipe will be dairy-free.
Make it vegan: Swap the salmon for tofu, seitan or your preferred vegan-friendly protein, and use an egg-free mayo.
A different fish: Not a huge salmon fillets fan? Try cod, mahi mahi, tilapia, or your favorite kind of fish. You could also use seafood such as shrimp or scallops.
Other veggies: Shredded or matchstick-cut carrots would be good, or you could add sauteed sliced mushrooms, edamame beans or beansprouts. Crunchy French fried onions are great as well.
Some fruit perhaps? Chopped pineapple would be tasty.
Not a spice lover? Swap the spicy sriracha mayo for teriyaki sauce, hoisin sauce or oyster sauce, and omit the chili powder and cayenne from the spice mix.
Serving Suggestions
Appetizers: Get in the mood for Asian food by starting off with some crab egg rolls or potstickers. One of these light springtime appetizers would be good too.
Side dishes: Although this salmon rice bowl is a meal-in-one you can always enjoy some sides, perhaps crispy wontons. You can also serve smaller portions of the salmon rice bowl and enjoy a Chinese chicken salad, too.
Desserts: How does 2-ingredient dragon fruit ice cream sound for dessert?
How to Store Salmon Bowls
Store: Keep leftovers covered and refrigerated and eat within 2 days.
Freeze: If you want to freeze some, it’s best to freeze the salmon and rice mixture separately. Don’t freeze the whole thing because those salad veggies don’t freeze well.
Top Tips
Cooking the fish: The exact cooking time for the salmon depends on its thickness, so keep an eye on it. Once it’s no longer opaque in the middle it’s done.
Get creative: Feel free to add other components to the dish. Roasted seaweed, bell pepper, avocado, radish, carrot, edamame beans – anything goes!
Prep ahead: If you cook the rice ahead and chop the veggies, you can assemble these salmon rice bowls fast. You could even prep and cook the salmon ahead if you don’t mind it cold instead of warm.
