I wonder if there’s such a thing as loving too much. Giving your all, dedicating your life to one person or purpose, holding it above all else. So much so that, when you wake in the morning, it’s the first thing on your mind, and the last thought that drifts by before you fall asleep. You live for it and you breathe for it. You can’t imagine your life without it. Thinking of our dog? Yeah, me too. Good to know I’m not the only crazy dog mom out there. I am sure there are a lot of us that are crazy about dogs, a dog lover or a dog person. Am I right!?!
Our pets are our world and we’ll yell it from the rooftops! There’s no shame in loving a precious little dog more than life itself – a pure, innocent being that looks to you with nothing but love and admiration. Maybe they were literally bred and born to love us, but boy do they do a great job at following their instincts.
Dog Lover aka Crazy Dog Mom
If you’re crazy about dogs – or just completely crazy about your dog – there’s nothing wrong with that. Dogs are called fur-babies for a reason. If you’re not sure whether you fall into the category of completely dog crazy, read on for a few clarifying factors. Once you’ve been diagnosed, you can focus on getting yourself into….treat-ment….Woof.
Your Dog Sleeps in your Bed with You
Curled up under the covers. Potentially even as your little spoon. Letting your dog on the furniture is a normal dog person thing. But the bed? Those little crumbs of dirt that live between their toes smearing all over your sheets at night will never leave. And if you thought your morning breath was bad, the fumes of a sleepy dog are going to knock you out. All that said, if you can deal with it, you’re surely in love.
Your Camera Roll is all Dog Pix
I’m guilty of this one, too. Our pets are literally the cutest thing to walk this earth. Every yawn is worth capturing. Each and every sneeze. Every big-mouthed smile on a hot summer day. Why would you want to look at anything else?
When You’re Out, Your Dog is Always on Your Mind
Ever gone on vacation and left your dog behind? Ugh, my heart hurts just thinking about it. You just end up spending the whole time wishing you could text or FaceTime them to see what they’re up to. Guilty. Or, you’re so full of longing that you take it to the next level and…
You Have a Doggie-Cam at Home
So when you’re out and about, you can check in! See what they’re up to! Have they eaten already? Where’s their nap spot of the day? You want to be connected at all times, and that means you’re a crazy dog mom. Especially when you start talking to them through it. No judgement. Just saying though.
Two Words: Dog Clothes
I’m not talking about seasonally-themed collars, or even a coat for the really cold days. I’m talking outfits.Bowties. Hoodies. Those weird onesies with the butt cut-out. Hats. Halloween costumes. Definitely dresses. If your dog wears dresses, just accept that you’ve crossed into crazy dog mom territory for sure. And welcome.
Sharing Milestones
We’re all proud of our pups when they achieve something, or learn something new. But there’s a limit. If you post an annual photo with your dog at the big birthday party you threw for them, you might be a crazy dog mom. If you celebrated each month of puppyhood, you’re definitely a crazy dog mom. That dog isn’t 18 months old, it’s a year and a half. But we get it! That’s your baby.
You Share Food
Your plate always has a watchful eye below it, hoping something will fall into their mouths. That’s for normal people who are crazy about dogs. The real dog moms share bites off their plates with their pups every time – or make them their own plate! Here’s a quick test for this: would you let your dog lick your ice cream cone?
Your Dog Goes by Many Names
Sure, he’s got his given name. His birth name. But does he get called that often? Nope. Any normal dog person has one or two nicknames for their dog. You, on the other hand, have got an encyclopedia’s worth of nicknames for your dog – some of them cute, some of them nonsense, but all of them necessary and important depending on what position he naps in today!
Your Pup Goes Everywhere
Dogs are always down to ride shot-gun and catch a few rogue sniffs out the window. Letting your dog come along for the ride or on a run is normal dog person behaviour. This only becomes extreme when you won’t go unless your pup can come, too. For a great example, think dog purses. Have you ever looked at someone with a dog in their purse and not thought they were crazy? If only Beau was small enough to fit in a purse…ya…I would be that crazy dog mom!
If you are dating, well, you know you are going to be looking for dog friendly date ideas. If that isn’t for him, maybe it wasn’t meant to be!
Two Words: Doggie Instagram
Your pet has his own page. And you probably post on it more than your personal Insta, complete with captions in your dog’s voice. Let’s be real – he probably has way more followers than you do! You’re lucky to live in the presence of such an paw-sitive influencer. Make sure you treat him accordingly. You can check out my sweet Beau_the_Brittany Instagram and give him a follow!
No Other Dog can Compare
Sure, other dogs are cute, but when compared with your baby? It’s almost sad that other pet parents don’t get to have your dog, too. No other dog is quite as funny, with such a good personality, the perfect set of crooked ears, and an artfully placed snaggletooth. There’s just no dog out there as good as yours. You might be a dog lover, but you love YOUR dog the best.
Are you a crazy dog mom and dog lover, too? Nothing to be ashamed about! It is okay by me to be crazy about dogs and a dog person. How to be a good dog mom you ask? Just give them your whole heart!

Haha, these are all true. Love my furbaby!
I know a lot of “crazy dog mamas”! This had me smiling all the way through.
Bella,
Dogs are amazing. They give so much love. And the wonderful thing about their live is that it is unconditional!
No shame in being a crazy Dog Mum or crazy Pet Parent for that matter 🙂
Thanks for sharing.

I totally get you. I think I’m like you at times.
Your dog is so sweet! We pondered the possibility of letting our dog sleep on the bed and are so glad we decided against it. I am not sure if it is common in dogs, but mine snores so loud that he wakes us up.
I love taking pics of my pup. I also spoil her with cuddles. Nothing wrong with being a “crazy dog mama”. 😀
