Why You’ll Love It
Easy to make: You don’t need to buy Christmas sweet treats when there are festive snacks that are this simple to prepare.
Only 4 ingredients: And they’re all easy to find at the grocery store.
Everyone loves them: The flavors are really good and the way the salty pretzels contrast with the sweet ingredients is magical.
Rolo Pretzel Sandwiches Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Pretzel snaps: The basis of the Rolo candy sandwiches. The saltiness is so good with the sweet flavors.
Milk chocolate Rolos: You need to unwrap them all (and if there are any left over, the chef gets to eat them!)
Vanilla melting wafers: These melt easily in the microwave.
Christmas sprinkles: Red, white and green is fabulous and festive.
How to Make Rolo Pretzel Sandwiches
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Assemble the Rolo pretzel sandwiches: Arrange the pretzels on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and top each one with un unwrapped Rolo candy. Bake for a few minutes or until the Rolos soften a bit. Press another pretzel on top of the Rolo to sandwich the Rolo candy in between.
Chill them: Pop them in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens up.
Add the candy coating: Melt the candy wafers in the microwave and dip the Rolo pretzels in the melted wafers. Put them back on the baking sheet.
Add the sprinkles: Immediately add festive sprinkles.
Chill them again: Refrigerate until the outer coating is set and then serve.
Substitutions and Variations
Milk chocolate Rolos: You can sub dark salted caramel instead of milk chocolate if you want. The chewy caramel is really good. You could even opt for something different like Cadbury chocolate squares, mini peanut butter cups, Milky Way, or Hershey’s Kisses. Even white chocolate would work.
Pretzel snaps: Pretzel waffles (the round ones), pretzel flats, pretzel crisps, or mini pretzel twists would work instead of square pretzels.
Sprinkles: Swap for drizzled melted red, white and green candy melts.
Melting wafers: Sub almond bark or perhaps white chocolate chips or another color candy melt.
Serving Suggestions
Appetizers: Begin your Christmas meal with a Christmas tree charcuterie board.
Main Course: Next up, consider holiday roasted chicken or a sheet pan ham dinner, perhaps with garlic butter fondant potatoes.
Dessert: This Rolo pretzel recipe makes a great dessert, perhaps paired with another festive treat such as these Christmas marshmallow pops.
How to Store Pretzel Rolo Sandwiches
Store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container on the counter and eat within 2 weeks. If you refrigerate them, they should keep for up to 3 weeks.
Freeze: Don’t freeze these unless you like soggy pretzels!
Top Tips
Work quickly: It’s important to add the sprinkles as soon as you’ve dipped the Rolo pretzel bites in the melted candy, otherwise it will set too fast and the sprinkles won’t adhere. For this reason, dip some and add sprinkles and repeat, rather than dipping them all and then adding the sprinkles.
Make extra: These do disappear fast so you might like to double or triple the recipe.
Use parchment paper: Don’t skip the parchment paper (or wax paper if that’s what you have) or your Rolo pretzel recipe will stick.
Rolo Pretzel Sandwich Recipe FAQs
Oh yes, you can change up the colors you use for different holidays (these would be super-cute for Valentine’s Day with pink and red sprinkles!)
They take 3 or 4 minutes to soften in the oven. Once you can press them down, they’re ready to come out so you can add the pretzel on top. Over-baking them will lead to melted, messy Rolo candies dripping all over the baking sheet so don’t do that.
Christmas Rolo Pretzel Sandwich Recipe
Christmas Rolo Pretzel Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 80 pretzel snaps, or mini pretzel rounds or mini pretzel twists
- ¼ Cup sprinkles, in Christmas colors
- 40 milk chocolate Rolos
- 10 Ounces Ghirardelli melting wafers, white vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 250°F and use parchment paper to line a baking sheet.
- Arrange 40 pretzel snaps on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
- Top each pretzel with an unwrapped Rolo.
- Bake for 3 to 4 minutes or until the Rolos have softened but are not completely melted.
- Remove them from the oven and top each Rolo with another pretzel snap, gently pressing it down to flatten the Rolo and make a sandwich. Don’t flatten it too much so the Rolo spills out the sides.
- Put the baking sheet in the refrigerator and chill for 20 minutes or until the chocolate hardens back up.
- Now melt the candy wafers in a bowl in the microwave using a low or defrost setting in 30 second increments, stirring at each interval for even heating, until smooth.
- Remove the chilled Rolo pretzel sandwiches from the fridge and dip each one halfway into the melted wafers, shaking off any excess and then put the sandwiches back on the baking sheet and top with the sprinkles right away.
- Repeat the coating and decorating the rest of the sandwiches and then put the tray back in the fridge to chill for another 10 to 20 minutes, or until the outer coating has set fully.
Notes
