More Halloween favorites include vampire’s kiss jello shots, Halloween vial shooters, candy apples, and a Halloween veggie platter.

Heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk and white cake mix are used to make the spooky ice cream. You also need purple, black, green, and orange food dyes, along with some Halloween sprinkles.

How to Make Spooky Ice Cream

Making frozen Halloween treats is fun as well as easy. Colourful no churn Halloween ice cream can be prepared with a hand mixer (or some elbow grease!) Mix the cream and condensed milk together well and then add in the cake mix.

Now you have the ice cream mixture you can divide it between 4 containers. Add a different colour of gel food dye to each one. Now you can pour the mixtures into a loaf pan and add the sprinkles on top.

This birthday cake flavoured ice cream takes roughly 4 hours to set. You can always make it ahead though and just leave it in the freezer until ready to serve.

What Kind of Food Dyes to Use

It doesn’t really matter which ones you use. I like to use gel food dyes to make this dessert with Halloween colours. You could also use the liquid type. Bear in mind when using liquid you need more than when using gel. Gel is more concentrated. It’s best to add a little at a time.

You might like to use a better quality dye for the black though, since cheap black dyes can end up looking dark blue rather than black.

What Type of Sprinkles Work Best

Again, it’s your call what to add to your frozen Halloween treats. Colourful no churn Halloween ice cream suits any kind of sprinkles. You can use Halloween coloured ones in green, orange, black and/or purple or any other kind you want. Another option for this spooky ice cream would be to add a big plastic spider! Don’t add anything tiny and nonedible in case someone tries to swallow some. These are the Halloween sprinkles that I used.

Monster eyes would be another nice topping for birthday cake flavoured ice cream. You can get candy eyes on Amazon or from bakery stores around the time of Halloween. There are plenty more ways you could personalise this dessert with Halloween colours too. Just use your imagination and have fun!

What about a witch ice cream? To make this, add some scoops of ice cream to a bowl then add a cone on top (for a witch’s hat). Dip the cone in melted chocolate first. Add some eyes, a nose and mouth using candies, nuts or little cookies. Something else that’s fun about that idea would be letting the kids decorate their own. Black liquorice can be used for the hair.

Halloween is the perfect time to make not only colourful no churn Halloween ice cream but other frozen Halloween treats too. The great thing about making frozen ones is you can make them ahead rather than having to prepare everything on the same day or at the last minute.

Spooky ice cream can be served in cones or small bowls. You could also sandwich some between a pair of wafers.

Churned vs No Churn Ice Cream

This colourful no churn Halloween ice cream tastes just as good as the regular churned kind. But what’s the difference? When you churn ice cream, air goes into it adding lightness and volume.

No churn ice cream is usually made with whipped cream because it already has air in it. Sweetened condensed milk is another typical addition in no churn ice cream. It’s high in sugar which lowers the freezing point. This ensures the ice cream firms up but doesn’t get too hard.

Sweetened condensed milk is also cooked down. This means less water content in the ice cream so you don’t have to worry about ice crystals in there. A basic no churn ice cream is made with just the cream and the condensed milk.

There are lots of variations though depending what you want. You can make colourful no churn Halloween ice cream quickly and easily and it will be every bit as smooth, rich and creamy as the churned kind.

  1. If I use my mixer, would I use my whisk attachment or beater attachment? I’m thinking this looks great to go with our other Holloween Birthday treats this year!

    1. Hi, I use the whisk attachment but a beater would probably work too. Yes, it is a fun addition to a party spread.

  2. 5 stars
This rainbow ice cream was so easy to make it felt like I was cheating! I love that you can pick out what colors you want to use and you don’t even need an ice cream maker. I don’t make ice cream much but this recipe was so simple (and really tasty) that might change! It’s always a good time to have ice cream, Halloween or any other day of the year, right!
