What is Fireball?
I’m sure you’ve heard of Fireball (and tasted it!) but let’s take a closer look at this ingredient. Fireball is a combination of Canadian whisky, sweeteners and cinnamon flavouring. It’s been around since the 1980s and wasn’t really known outside Canada for the first few years. Now you can find this cinnamon whisky everywhere because it’s a huge hit and stars in many tasty jello shots! It’s not only great for Halloween but your next party too.
If you want to know how to make Halloween jello shots with a kick, don’t forget the Fireball! It adds a nice, spicy kick to the vampire blood jello shooter. Remember these take an hour (probably closer to 2 or even 3) to fully set. For this reason, plan any Halloween party ideas including jello well ahead!
Halloween Fireball Shooter Tips
When making jello shots for Halloween, it’s best to only fill the cups ¾ full. It’s hard to put the lid on tight if they are too full. Something else to bear in mind is that alcohol can hinder jello from setting properly. Although soft-set jello is fine for a spooky Halloween alcoholic shot, it should be at least mostly set, else it will be harder to eat the perfect size Halloween shots without making a mess!
It’s easiest to pour the jello mixture directly from the measuring cup into the shot cups, since you’re using it anyway. I made mine with red on the bottom and black on top but you can swap the colours around if you want. There are no fixed rules when it comes to Halloween party ideas and the basic recipe is a great point to begin. You’re sure to find a great way of ensuring these are the best jello shots ever!

If you’re making these a little late, throw some ice in with the cold water. The colder the jello mixture is the quicker it’s going to set! A few ice cubes or some crushed ice can shave a few minutes off the setting time for these Fireball shots anyway.
Knowing how to make Halloween jello shots is a handy skill to have. Actually, Fireball jello shots can be fun for any kind of party. You can switch up the colors and flavors to match the occasion! Nothing says Happy Halloween quite so well as Halloween jello shots recipes in plastic cups in different colours.
How to Store Jello Shots
These will be good for 4 or 5 days in the refrigerator. They will probably last longer than that although the quality will slowly start to decline. They’re still safe to drink though.
Can You Freeze Jello Shots?
Are these spooky jello shots freezable? Well gelatine doesn’t really freeze well. The chemical structure changes and it will probably expand out of the shot glass. These red and black jello shots for Halloween are better enjoyed the same day or refrigerated for up to a few days.

Recipe looks great but I have a few questions, can I use a different liquor? (planning to make a lot and want different liquor options) Do these make your mouth black because of food coloring?
Hi James, you only need a couple of drops of the black food dye, as a little goes a long way. Since these are jello shots that you pretty much just tip into your mouth and swallow, they shouldn’t make your mouth black at all. As for the liquor, I used Fireball cinnamon whiskey because I love the warming flavor (and had half a bottle to use up!) but anything should work here. Dark colored liquors might make the red layer a darker red. Experiment with anything you want – vodka, Bacardi, gin etc (or even liquor-free ones for the kids or those who don’t drink?)
These are so fun! I made these last year for a Halloween party and I’m making these again for the next one. The Fireball whiskey with cherry is so good!
Yes! It is a tasty combo!
These are adorable! Can’t wait to make them for our Halloween party this year!
I made these for a Halloween party and people enjoyed them! Thanks for the recipe! 🙂
Made these last year and ready to make them again this Halloween. Hands down the BEST JELLO SHOTS! II love the fireball in it
The black and red layers look sexy and Halloweeny! I had to order cinnamon whiskey online because they don’t have Fireball where I live, but it was worth it. These will get any Halloween party started on a high note. I used black food color gel and found I only needed a couple of tiny drops – don’t add too much at once when you make these Halloween jello shots!
Do the colours turn out matte like the pic or clear and shiny like jello?
If the colour doesn’t look the way that you want, add a bit more food colouring. The “matte” look is from the container it is in if I am understanding your question correctly.
