Why You’ll Love It

Easy to create: You don’t have to be a mixologist to whip up these simple Halloween drinks.
Tastes so good: The combination of icing, sprinkles, orange soda, and vanilla ice cream is always a great one, and everyone adores a creamsicle flavor.
Simple to customize: You can use any orange-colored soda, any ice cream, any type of sprinkles, and make any other adjustments you want to personalize your floats.

Fanta Float Ingredients

A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

White writing icing: Use readymade white icing. I used the Betty Crocker one.
Halloween themed sprinkles: Choose Halloween colors and/or Halloween shapes (I love these with white ghosts, orange pumpkins and black bats!) Mini candy eyeballs are cute too.
Orange soda: Make sure it’s chilled before use.
Vanilla ice cream: For sweetness and creaminess.

How to Make an Orange Creamsicle Float

For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.

Add the icing and sprinkles: Slowly piping writing icing around the top rim of a clean, dry glass, letting it drip down. Add the Halloween sprinkles.
Add vanilla ice cream: Scoop ice cream into the glass until it’s about ¾ full.
Add the Fanta orange soda: Pour soda into the glass slowly until it’s almost full to the brim.
Add garnishes: Decorate the ice cream float with Halloween garnishes, straws or whatever you want, and serve immediately. I make custom skewers with pumpkin candy (these are great) and a bead.

Substitutions and Variations

Another soda: You can combine a light-colored soda like 7Up, Sprite or ginger ale with a couple of drops of orange food coloring if you don’t want to use Fanta orange or another orange soda brand. You could even use root beer or Coca Cola if you prefer the flavor.
Different ice cream: The lighter the ice cream, the more it stands out in the Fanta jack o’lantern, which is why I used vanilla bean ice cream. You can use any light-colored ice cream variety.
Garnishes and decorations: Add a spooky twist to your Halloween float adding bamboo skewers with candy pumpkins or candy corns (or a mix like this) on top along with fun festive straws or a drizzle of orange or black syrup on top. I love these cute Halloween cocktail sticks.
Whipped cream: Add some on top if liked.

Sinister snacks: Serve up mummy hot dogs and skull potatoes to get into the Halloween spirit, or how about a Halloween vegetable platter?
Spooky sweets:

How to Store Halloween Floats

Store: These are best served as soon as they’re ready, otherwise the ice cream will just melt.
Freeze: These aren’t good for freezing.

Top Tips

The right consistency of icing: You might want to put the icing pouch in hot water for a minute or so, to make it runnier so it drips more easily. If it’s dripping too much, put the glasses in the refrigerator or in front of a fan.
Serving glasses: A 12-ounce glass is a good serving size. Adjust the amount of ingredients if you use larger or smaller ones. This recipe serves one, so just use more ingredients if you’re making several. If you don’t want to use glasses, you can use clear plastic cups.
Make them fresh: An ice cream float should be served immediately before the ice cream melts. So, if you’re waiting for the kids to return from trick or treating or expecting more party guests later, plan to make this perfect treat nearer the time or at least add ice cream just before serving.

Halloween Fanta Float Recipe FAQs

Can you make this recipe healthier?

Prefer to cut down on sugar? Use sugar-free orange soda and low-sugar or fat-free ice cream. Alternatively, make smaller servings.

Can you decorate the serving glasses?

You might want to add Halloween stickers (skulls, ghosts or anything else) to the serving glasses to boost the fear factor!

Is there another way to top these?

Instead of using the writing icing and sprinkles, you could add a squirt of whipped cream on top and then add a pair of candy eyes and a mouth made with black icing or black candies and perhaps also add sprinkles. You could make some of the drinks this way and some the other way!

Halloween Ice Cream Floats

Say Happy Halloween with some Halloween ice cream floats. These 4-ingredient shooters are simple to prepare, they look cute and taste sweet and fruity.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons icing, white writing
  • 1 Teaspoon sprinkles, Halloween-themed
  • candy eyes
  • 6 Ounces orange soda, chilled
  • ¾ Cup vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  • Take a clean glass cup, make sure it is completely dry. Use the writing icing to slowly pipe icing around the top edge of the glass, allowing it to drip down the sides. Move slower in some spots, building up the icing to create larger drips.
  • Carefully sprinkle the Halloween themed sprinkles on the wet icing.
  • When all of your glasses have been rimmed, use a small cookie scoop or a small spoon to scoop the ice cream into the glasses. Fill the glasses about ¾ of the way full with ice cream.
  • Slowly pour the chilled orange soda into each glass, only fill them about halfway full, as the soda will fizz and foam upward. Continue to add more soda once the foam has stopped growing until the glasses are full.
  • Add festive straws and garnishes such as candy pumpkins or candy corn.

This is a delicious and refreshing orange creamsicle version of the classic root beer float. Zesty, bright orange soda pairs with creamy vanilla ice cream to make Halloween ice cream floats. You can customize the dessert type drink too, perhaps add whipped cream, use different sprinkles or even add a splash of rum or vodka (if making screamsicle floats for the grownups!)
