Halloween Spaghetti Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
White button mushrooms: Carved into skulls for a spooky effect. Choose large, firm caps.

Pepperoni slices: Crisped for texture and smoky flavor.
Marinara sauce: Rich tomato base for the pasta.
Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder and Italian seasoning bring warmth and depth.
Pasta: Spaghetti or similar shapes work well for the tangled look.
Parmesan and mozzarella cheese: For gooey, cheesy goodness.
Almonds: Add the “nail” effect to sausage fingers.
Fresh basil leaves: Bright, herbal garnish to finish the dish.

How to Make Halloween Spaghetti
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Make mushroom skulls and sausage fingers: Carve mushrooms into skulls and score sausages to resemble fingers with nail beds while the pasta cooks in a large pot, following the package directions.
Cook spooky pasta: Sauté mushrooms in olive oil, fry sausages, crisp pepperoni, stirring occasionally, then make the sauce and toss in cooked pasta with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
Assemble: Arrange mushroom skulls and sausage fingers on the cooked spaghetti noodles.
Garnish: Top with basil leaves and serve your Halloween dinner warm.

Substitutions and Variations
Gluten-free option: Use gluten-free pasta for the same spooky experience.
Sauce swap: Try tomato basil or roasted red pepper spaghetti sauce for a different flavor. Just use whatever is your favorite pasta sauce or maybe my homemade garlic marinara. If you’re using a creamy or light-colored sauce, you could add green, purple or even black food coloring to the pasta.
Protein change: Salami or chorizo adds a spicier kick than pepperoni.
Nut-free nails: Pumpkin seeds or sliced black olive or green olive slices make creepy toppings without nuts. Something else I’ve done before is buy a set of cheap fake nails from the drugstore (or online) and use those!
Vegetarian version: Swap the sausages for plant-based versions and skip the pepperoni.
Another cheese: You can use only mozzarella cheese, only parmesan cheese or something else altogether, such as shredded cheddar or even mini mozzarella balls in this fun Halloween dinner.
Garnish alternative: Swap the basil for chopped parsley.
Fresh garlic: Use a minced garlic clove or two in your spooky meal, instead of the garlic powder.

Serving Suggestions
Appetizers: Begin your meal with Halloween bruschetta or these spooky mini charcuterie boards.
Side dishes: Enjoy skull potatoes to add a spooky twist that kids love.
Desserts: Serve up Harry Potter style chocolate frogs or creepy ice cream floats.

How to Store
Store: Keep leftover creepy spaghetti in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Freeze: Suitable for freezing up to 1 month in a freezer-safe container.
Thaw: Defrost in the fridge overnight.
Reheat: Warm on the stove with a splash of water or extra sauce until heated through.

Top Tips
Carve carefully: Use a straw for eyes and a paring knife for teeth on mushrooms.
Secure the nails: Press almonds into sausages after cooking with a dab of sauce.
Add drama: Drizzle extra sauce for a “bloody” Halloween effect.
Make ahead: Prep mushrooms and sausages a day before to save time.

Halloween Pasta FAQs
Long pasta like spaghetti, fettuccine, angel hair or linguine looks creepiest when tangled, but feel free to use bow tie pasta or your favorite pasta shape.
Absolutely, a blend of crushed tomatoes, herbs and garlic works perfectly.
Not usually, but you can add chili flakes or spicy sausage if you do want some heat.
