Make the lavender syrup: Put the lavender in a pan with the sugar and water and bring the mixture to a boil. Next, simmer for a few minutes until the sugar has dissolved then take it off the heat. Let the mixture sit for half an hour so all the aromatic lavender flavor is coaxed out into the syrup. Finally strain the liquid and throw out the lavender buds.
Make the sugared rim: Combine some sugar with lemon zest to make the rim dip. Moisten the rim of each martini or coupe glass with lemon juice then roll the glasses in the sugar-lemon mixture.
Assemble the cocktails: Add ice to a cocktail shaker and then add the vodka and triple sec with some lemon juice and lavender syrup. Shake and pour into the rimmed glasses then garnish the spring cocktail with lemon and/or lavender sprigs if liked.
Substitutions and Variations
Add fruit: Add crushed or pureed berries to the cocktail shaker with the other ingredients. Raspberries work well, or you could try blueberries.
White sugar: Use your preferred sweetener instead.
Lavender syrup: This is an alternative recipe for lavender simple syrup.
Serving Suggestions
With party appetizers: Serve this lavender lemon drop martini alongside party favorites like chips with a baked artichoke dip, Cajun shrimp with deviled eggs or maple bacon turkey sliders.
With desserts: Enjoy honeybun cake or air fryer pavlova with your drink.
How to Store Lavender Lemon Drop Martini
Store: You can keep the mixed drink (without the ice) for several days in the refrigerator. Refrigerate the lavender simple syrup by itself in a sealable container for up to a month. Since this is a rich simple syrup, make sure to allow it to come back down to room temperature and stir to break up any crystallization before using.
Freeze: The alcohol content means this wouldn’t freeze fully.
Top Tips
Make ahead: If you mix everything except the ice together ahead of time, you can keep the mixture for up to 2 days. Keep it refrigerated and in an airtight container. Give it a good shake before serving it though.
Make it lavender colored: Stir in 2 drops of blue and 1 drop of purple food coloring to your syrup after the buds have been strained and removed. For a natural colorant, you can even add a few blueberries to the boiling syrup. Simply allow the berries to burst in the saucepan and strain out the skins along with the lavender buds.
Use freshly squeezed lemon juice: You’ll find fresh lemon juice gives this cocktail a fresh flavor, and you can add some lemon peel or a lemon twist as a garnish if you have fresh lemons.
