Also try these lemon filled cupcakes, lemon ricotta cookies, caramel pretzel apple bark or s’mores brownie bite truffles.
The kids are going to love these s’mores mini pies and so are you. They’re easy mini pie pops which don’t need a lot of ingredients. They don’t take much time to make either.
Air Fryer S’more Pie Pops Ingredients
You only need six ingredients to make this air fryer s’more recipe. Make them as a treat or consider them for a summer BBQ dessert idea. You will need refrigerated pie dough, marshmallows, chocolate, butter, sugar, and powdered sugar.
You don’t have to make your own dough for these easy mini pie pops. Just buy Pillsbury refrigerated pie dough to simplify things. Choose mini marshmallows for this recipe and cookies and cream flavour chocolate (or another kind if you prefer). The butter should be unsalted and then you’ll need brown sugar and powdered sugar too.
How to Make these Easy S’more Treats
So once you have the ingredients ready, it’s time to make these air fryer s’more pie pops! Roll out the pie dough and use a 2-inch cookie cutter to cut circles. Now add either melted chocolate or Nutella and stick a popsicle stick in it. The stickiness of the melted chocolate or Nutella will hold the stick in place.
Add mini marshmallows and another dough round and crimp them to seal. Melted butter and brown sugar go on the dough. Can you imagine these flavours already? I’m sure you can see how this is a great summer BBQ dessert idea! Add these to a bowl of vanilla ice cream for a delicious treat.
It’s best to wrap some aluminum foil around the popsicle sticks so they don’t char or, worse still, catch fire! They will take about 8 minutes to cook in the air fryer. Once the dough is golden, they are ready. Sprinkle some powdered sugar over them and voila! Your easy mini pie pops are ready to enjoy!
Can I Cook S’mores Mini Pies on the Grill?
So what about cooking these easy s’more treats on the grill, like with regular s’mores? If you’re making this air fryer s’more recipe as a summer BBQ dessert idea, why not? When the grill is still hot from cooking the burgers and hot dogs, you might prefer to use that. Arrange the s’mores mini pies on a foil tray and pop it in the grill over indirect heat. The grill shouldn’t be too hot else these will just burn before the crust is cooked. Flip them after a few minutes.
Another idea is to make a couple of large pies instead of lots of mini ones. Roll the pie crust to fit in a couple of round foil containers then add the chocolate and marshmallows. Grill them over a medium heat until the dough is cooked through.
I recommend the air fryer though because it’s quicker, easier and the air fryer s’more pie pops get nice and crispy on both sides. Cooking pies on the grill isn’t impossible but it can be tricky since the heat isn’t as easy to control.
Unless you’re willing to experiment, I’d get the air fryer ready. That way you know these will come out perfect!
Why are They Called S’mores?
No camping trip is complete without some easy s’more treats. How did they originate though? This camping snack, consisting of marshmallows and chocolate sandwiched between graham crackers, has been around for a while.
The first recipe was in a girl scouts’ cookbook from 1927. They were first called ‘some mores’ before becoming the catchier ‘s’mores’. The reason for the name is simple. When you taste one you immediate want… some more!
Marshmallows date all the way back to 2000 BC! The Romans were very keen on this sweet treat. The mallow plant grows in marshes, hence the name, and is combined with sugar and other ingredients to make traditional marshmallows.
You can alter the air fryer s’more pie pops recipe if you want to make changes. Some people like to add some peanut butter as well as chocolate. I haven’t tried that but it sounds intriguing! Serve with other s’more inspired treats like easy s’mores cookie bars or s’more scones.
