These chocolate peanut butter banana bites are one of my favorite treats to keep stashed in the freezer. Ripe banana, crunchy peanut butter and tangy Greek yogurt make a creamy filling that’s scooped into little bites and covered in semisweet chocolate. I love the bits of peanut crunch against the smooth banana filling and crisp chocolate shell. There’s no baking involved, and they’re especially good straight from the freezer when I’m craving something sweet.

Why You’ll Love It

These chocolate peanut butter banana bites combine nutty, creamy and sweet flavors, all cased in a chocolate coating. They’re energizing and tasty.
No baking needed: Mix, scoop, freeze and dip. The freezer does most of the work here.
Crunchy peanut butter: I love using crunchy peanut butter because the little pieces of peanut give the creamy banana filling some texture.
Perfect from the freezer: I keep these frozen and grab one whenever I want a little chocolate treat. Let them sit for a few minutes first if you prefer a softer center.

Also try chocolate-dipped strawberry popsicles, white chocolate-dipped ginger cookies, banana chocolate chip cookies and banana bark.

Peanut Butter Banana Bites Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Bananas: Use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots. They’re sweeter, easier to mash and give the filling more banana flavor.
Peanut butter: I use natural crunchy peanut butter because I love the little bits of peanut throughout the creamy filling. Smooth peanut butter works too if that’s what you prefer.
Chocolate chips: Semisweet chocolate is my favorite here because the banana filling is already sweet. Dark chocolate is also delicious if you want a less-sweet coating.

How to Make Peanut Butter Frozen Banana Bites
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Make the filling: Mash the bananas and mix them with the peanut butter, Greek yogurt and vanilla until well combined.
Scoop the bites: Scoop the banana mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Freeze them: Freeze for about 45 minutes, or until firm enough to dip without falling apart.
Melt the chocolate: Microwave the chocolate chips in short intervals, stirring between each one, until completely melted and smooth.
Dip and freeze: Dip each frozen banana bite in melted chocolate, let the excess drip off and return it to the baking sheet. Freeze again until the chocolate is set.

Substitutions and Variations
Gluten-free option: If you want a gluten-free version, check the ingredients on your chocolate chips. Although pure chocolate is gluten-free, some chocolate chips do have gluten in, or are made in a factory that also handles gluten. The other ingredients are all free from gluten.
Peanut butter: I like the texture crunchy peanut butter brings to the banana bites. If you just want a smooth texture, you can use smooth peanut butter instead. You could also use a combination of creamy peanut butter and ½ cup of chopped peanuts. If you prefer, you can use a different nut butter, such as almond butter or cashew butter.
Chocolate chips: Feel free to swap out the semi-sweet chocolate chips for your favorite kind of chocolate, perhaps dark chocolate chips or even white ones.
Greek yogurt: I used plain Greek yogurt but you could experiment with a flavored Greek yogurt.

Serving Suggestions
As a sweet treat: Enjoy chocolate peanut butter banana bites with a gingerbread latte or a pineapple mango smoothie.
For energy: Although frozen treats aren’t ideal for bringing camping or hiking (unless you can keep them frozen!) they’re great as an energizing treat beforehand. Perhaps check out some trail mix recipes for camping and hiking trips.
For dessert: You can enjoy these banana bites as they are or serve them with other treats, such as homemade ice cream or flourless fudge cookies.

How to Store
Freeze: Once your peanut banana bites have set, you can store them in a Ziploc bag or airtight container for up to 2 months in the freezer.
Thaw: Thawing is optional because these are so good served frozen but if you want them softer you can pop them in the refrigerator for an hour or so before serving, or leave them on the counter to thaw faster.

Top Tips
Use really ripe bananas: This is a great recipe for bananas that are already covered in brown spots. They’re sweeter, mash more smoothly and give the filling much more banana flavor. If you would use the bananas for banana bread, they would be great for this recipe.
Don’t rush the first freeze: The bites need to be firm before you dip them. If they’re still soft, dipping them in warm chocolate gets messy very quickly.
Work in batches: I like to leave some of the bites in the freezer while I dip the others so they stay nice and firm. If any start getting too soft, pop them back in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Keep the chocolate smooth: Melt the chocolate slowly and stir well between each burst in the microwave. If it starts getting too thick while you’re dipping, warm it again briefly.

Peanut Butter Banana Bites FAQs
No. I don’t temper the chocolate for these banana bites. Just melt the chocolate chips until smooth, dip the frozen bites and return them to the freezer until the chocolate coating is set.
