Why You’ll Love It
Such a simple recipe: This is an easy recipe to make and there’s no baking involved either.
Delicious flavors: Sweet banana, fragrant vanilla, tangy yogurt, rich chocolate, and crunchy peanut butter all complement one another so well.

Peanut Butter Banana Bites Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt is creamier and richer than other yogurts, adding more depth to your banana bites.
Bananas: Since the bananas are mashed with the other ingredients, you can use overripe bananas for this treat.
Vanilla extract: Adds a complementary flavor to the bites.
Peanut butter: Adds crunch plus a distinctively nutty taste. I used natural peanut butter.
Chocolate chips: Semi sweet chocolate chips are melted to coat each banana peanut butter bite.
How to Make Peanut Butter Frozen Banana Bites
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Make the filling: Mash the bananas with the peanut butter, Greek yogurt, and vanilla in a bowl.
Shape the bites: Drop spoonfuls of the banana mixture onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Freeze them: Freeze them until hard and set.
Melt the chocolate: Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave.
Dip the banana bites: Dip each one in the melted chocolate, let any excess drip off, and return them to the baking sheet.
Freeze once more: Pop them in the freezer again and wait until the chocolate has set before serving.
Substitutions and Variations
Gluten-free option: If you want a gluten-free version, check the ingredients on your chocolate chips. Although pure chocolate is gluten-free, some chocolate chips do have gluten in, or are made in a factory that also handles gluten. The other ingredients are all free from gluten.
Peanut butter: I like the texture crunchy peanut butter brings to the banana bites. If you just want a smooth texture, you can use smooth peanut butter instead. You could also use a combination of creamy peanut butter and ½ cup of chopped peanuts. If you prefer, you can use a different nut butter, such as almond butter or cashew butter.
Chocolate chips: Feel free to swap out the semi-sweet chocolate chips for your favorite kind of chocolate, perhaps dark chocolate chips or even white ones.
Greek yogurt: I used plain Greek yogurt but you could experiment with a flavored Greek yogurt.
Serving Suggestions
As a sweet treat: Enjoy chocolate peanut butter banana bites with a gingerbread latte or a pineapple mango smoothie.
For energy: Although frozen treats aren’t ideal for bringing camping or hiking (unless you can keep them frozen!) they’re great as an energizing treat beforehand. Perhaps check out some trail mix recipes for camping and hiking trips.
For dessert: You can enjoy these banana bites as they are or serve them with other treats, such as homemade ice cream or flourless fudge cookies.
How to Store Peanut Banana Bites
Freeze: Once your peanut butter banana bites have set, you can store them in a Ziploc bag or airtight container for up to 2 months in the freezer.
Thaw: Thawing is optional because these are so good served frozen but if you want them softer you can pop them in the refrigerator for an hour or so before serving, or leave them on the counter to thaw faster.
Top Tips
Ripe bananas are sweeter: The riper your bananas are, the more flavor they will have, so try to use bananas with plenty of brown spots. If you would use the bananas for banana bread, they would be great for this recipe.
Melting the chocolate: You can use a double boiler (or a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water) instead of the microwave to make your melted chocolate if you prefer.
Ensure the banana bites are hard: If your banana bites start to get soft as you dip them in the chocolate, put them back in the freezer for about 10 minutes to harden. If they are too soft when you dip them, you’ll have a gooey mess.
PB Banana Bites FAQs
Definitely, and the nutrients from the banana, peanut butter and yogurt are better for kids than candy treats which are only sugar, fat and little else.
You don’t have to (I didn’t) but adding a little bit of coconut oil to your chocolate chips before melting and stirring can make your chocolate coating shinier.
