Read the ingredients needed to make the brownies on the box, since different brands differ in the amount of eggs, oil and so on they call for. I know the Betty Crocker Fudge boxed brownie mix calls for a couple of eggs, half a cup of oil and some water, but yours might be different.

How to Make Brownie Waffle Sundae

The first thing to do to make ice cream sundae baked in a waffle bowl is to prepare the brownies. Combine the brownie mix with the eggs, oil and water (or whatever is listed on the box) to make a batter. Do read the directions on the box too, since these vary as well as the ingredients you need to add to the mix.

Now wrap the waffle bowls around the outside and over the rim with foil and arrange them on a baking sheet. Pour some of the prepared brownie batter into each one, trying to get them all about half-full. Bake for 25 minutes then let them cool. Take the foil off the easy brownie sundae waffle bowls, add toppings and serve.

Tweaks and Variations

Feel free to use any kind of brownie mix here, such as fudge brownie mix or dark chocolate mix. You might even want to try something different such as blondie mix or even cake! If you prefer not to use boxed, try this one bowl brownies recipe.

As for the toppings, any flavour of ice cream will work such as Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, Black Forest ice cream or you could try sorbet, or both. Sprinkles, mini marshmallows, chopped nuts, and chopped candy pieces are all good. Then a drizzle of hot fudge or caramel sauce on top would be good. Or white chocolate sauce. Or you might prefer something fruity like strawberry or raspberry sauce.

Waffle Bowl Sundae FAQs

Can you make these ahead and how do you store leftovers?

You can make them ahead although the waffle cones will go soggy over time. The toppings shouldn’t be added until just before serving. As for leftovers, they will keep for 4 or 5 days in an airtight container at room temperature. Give them 10 seconds or so in the microwave to soften the brownie filling again.

Why do you have to wrap the waffle bowls in foil?

Foil is important when making easy brownie sundae waffle bowls. You need to wrap the outsides and then fold the foil around the rims. This serves two purposes: it helps the waffle bowls keep their shape and also stops the outside rim from burning.

By the way, if any of the waffle bowls in the box are cracked or broken, save them for another use. If you try to use them in this recipe, the batter will leak through the crack or hole and they won’t look as pretty!
