Why You’ll Love It
No baking required: This no-bake dessert can be made without having to put the oven on.
An easy dessert: Simply prepare the layers and assemble the dessert in a baking dish. After that, you just need to chill it.
Tastes so good: Tangy lime, creamy cheesecake and a buttery crust pair wonderfully together, offering delicious flavors in every bite.
Key Lime Lush Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Butter: I used unsalted butter.
Graham cracker crumbs: I used a food processor to crush up 12 honey graham crackers.
Cream cheese: Softened cream cheese is easier and faster to blend than cold cream cheese, so let it sit on the counter for up to 2 hours. Full-fat cream cheese is tastier than light cream cheese.
Granulated sugar: For sweetness.
Whipped topping: I used Cool Whip.
Sweetened condensed milk: For a rich creaminess.
Greek yogurt: Balances out the sweetness of the condensed milk, and the sour tang complements the key lime flavor.
Key lime zest: I used the zest of 4 key limes.
Key lime juice: I used Nellie & Joe’s Famous Key West Lime Juice. You can find it on the juice aisle in a pale greenish yellow bottle (or order it from Amazon!)
How to Make a Layered Lime Lush Dessert
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Make the crust: Melt the butter and stir it with the graham cracker crumbs. Press the crumbs into a greased baking dish then put it in the freezer to firm up.
Make the creamy filling: Beat the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla extract, and then add whipped topping. In another bowl, mix the sweetened condensed milk and Greek yogurt. Add the lime zest and lime juice.
Assemble the key lime pie lush: Spoon the cheesecake layer over the cracker crumb base and evenly spread it out. Add the key lime layer on top and then top with the remaining whipped topping.
Cover and chill: Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 4 hours before serving, garnished with key lime slices or a small lime wedge on each serving and more whipped cream. You could sprinkle over any remaining cookie crumbs as a garnish too. Serve chilled.
Substitutions and Variations
Butter: Unsalted butter can be substituted with salted butter.
Graham cracker crumbs: For a sweet crust, use vanilla wafers or golden Oreos, or your preferred cookie crumbs.
Key lime juice: Key lime juice is sweeter than regular lime juice, so I don’t recommend swapping those ingredients out.
Greek yogurt: Sour cream can be used instead of Greek yogurt in the key lime layer.
Serving Suggestions
Appetizers: Begin your meal with a charred zucchini salad.
Main dishes: Serve pistachio crusted salmon with smoked potato salad and roasted artichokes.
Dessert: Finish with a slice of this delicious key lime lush and perhaps a refreshing glass of homemade limoncello.
How to Store a Lime Dessert Lasagna
Store: Cover the dessert with plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freeze: Wrap the dessert in both plastic wrap and foil to prevent freezer burn and keep out the freezer “flavors.” Store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Thaw: Thaw it out overnight in the fridge before serving.
Top Tips
Grease your baking dish: Greasing the baking dish with melted butter or shortening will help the slices come right out.
Use key limes: Key limes are much smaller and sweeter than regular limes. You can usually find them in the produce section of major grocery stores year-round.
Use smooth cream cheese: Make sure the cream cheese is free of lumps before adding the whipped topping. You want it to be as smooth as possible.
Make it pretty: You can use a piping bag with a star tip to pipe on your whipped cream garnish before serving.
Lime Lush Dessert FAQs
It’s basically a layered dessert that’s made with a graham cracker or cookie crumb layer or cookie crust, a no-bake cheesecake layer, some kind of pudding mixture, and whipped cream. Other names for lush include icebox dessert, dessert lasagna and layered pudding dessert.
Sure, it needs to be chilled for at least 4 hours before serving anyway, so you can make it a day or so ahead.
