Passion Fruit Margarita Ingredients

A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

Passion fruit pulp: Brings tropical sweetness and signature tartness.  You can use fresh passion fruit pulp or the frozen one, you can find it at most supermarkets in the frozen aisle.
Tequila: Adds smooth, bold character to the cocktail base. I find that silver or blanco tequila gives the cleanest flavor in margaritas.
Orange liqueur: Offers citrus notes that complement the lime and passion fruit.
Lime juice: Balances the sweet ingredients with a sharp tang.
Honey: Naturally sweetens and softens the tart fruit flavor.
Ice: Keeps the margarita chilled and refreshing.
Salt: Used for rimming the glass for a savory contrast.
Garnishes: Lime slices, jalapeño slices, mint and/or basil add visual appeal and extra flavor options.

Passion Fruit Margarita Cocktail FAQs

Do I have to use rimming salt?

A margarita can be served without the salty rim (and some people prefer that) but traditionally the glass rim is salted. Rimming salt might be labeled as such or it might be labeled as margarita salt – it’s the same thing. Because this salt is supposed to stick to the rim of a glass, it’s coarse-grained. Passion fruit and lime are already a wonderful pairing, but add some salt, and you have a brand-new flavour to the fresh fruit margarita. Coarse salt is usually sea salt which is harvested in a big pond and slowly evaporated, so it forms big crystals. If you can’t find rimming salt or you don’t want to head out just for that one item, you can use kosher salt or coarse sea salt instead.

Can I use bottled passion fruit juice instead of pulp?

Yes, but look for 100 percent juice with no added sugar.
