Pink cookies with pink hearts are definitely the way to celebrate with your Valentine.
Get ready to fall in love with these delicious Valentine’s Day crinkle cookies! Soft, chewy, and bursting with flavor, they’re the perfect sweet treat for your sweetheart.
I am a big fan of easy quick and easy recipes. These use a cake mix as the base, so you can’t get much easier than cake mix cookies. Try not to eat the whole pan because these Valentine Crinkle Cookies are just so addicting!
In fact there are Valentine’s Day ideas for everyone, regardless of relationship status. It’s the day of love, so celebrate family and friendships too! Take some yummy, easy Valentine’s cookies into work to impress your colleagues. Everyone has at least one reason to whip up a batch of these Valentine crinkle cookies.
These are so easy to whip up, they really are! Crinkle cookies actually date back to the first half of the 1800s, and they have stood the test of time well. They are a common sight on holiday platters and in bakeries during festive periods. They come in different varieties too, such as strawberry, vanilla or even chocolate.
I made some Grinch Crinkle Cookies before Christmas that were so soft and chewy and always a hit. Why not try some for another holiday!?!
Did you know each year on Valentine’s Day, roughly 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are sold across the country in the U.S! That’s a lot of chocolate! Valentine’s Day can become pretty pricey, especially for the men, as they are more likely to spend double what women do!
Crinkle Cookies Ingredients
Making homemade treats is a great way to spread the love and save money. Try these cake mix cookies to see how good they really are! The best part is that you just need some simple ingredients. Vanilla cake mix (or even white cake mix), food colouring, icing sugar and sprinkles are all you need along with what the box mix calls for. In my case, that was vegetable oil and eggs.
Tips for Making Valentine Crinkle Cookies
You will need to combine the cake mix with food colouring, vegetable oil and eggs. The dough then needs to chill so it is easy to work with. You will then roll the dough balls in icing sugar and press them down. A cookie scoop will help to keep them a consistent size.
Add some cute large edible hearts on top. You can add as many as you like. Go crazy, it’s a special occasion after all! Of course there are other decorating possibilities for this sweet treat, so go ahead and get creative with these yummy little bites. Edible glitter is another idea for crinkle cookie recipes!
After some more chilling time, the cookies can be baked on parchment paper. They crack all over because of the icing sugar and how they are made, hence the ‘crinkle’ part in their name. These delicious cookies are such an easy homemade treat and sure to be a huge hit.
Served with a cup of tea or coffee, a Valentine’s Day cocktail or glass of wine, one (or more!) of these makes a beautiful snack.
How to Make Sure They Crinkle
Of course, since these are crinkle cookies, you don’t want the disappointment of not having them crinkle! That crackly top is what they’re all about. It’s important to chill the dough well before you roll these out. I chilled mine for 15 minutes and they came out well, but you might want to give them 30 minutes just in case. I also chilled after I put on the baking sheet.
For the food colouring, I find that gel dye works best for vibrant colours. For these, I used the Wilton gel in Rose Pink.
If you aren’t a fan of food dye, or you are allergic to some of them, I’m sure you could use a bit of beet juice to make these Valentines cookies instead. I used beet juice in this Pink Beet Hummus recipe that you might like. It would also be great to bring to a Valentine’s party.
Nobody will know these are cake mix cookies unless you mention it. It doesn’t get easier than these easy Valentine cookies! I used a Betty Crocker mix, but I am sure other mixes will work, too. And they are so good no one will be able to tell! Being able to use cake mix for these Valentine crinkle cookies just simplifies the recipe and saves you time.
How to Store Crinkle Cookies
Do you plan on doing a lot of baking for Valentine’s Day? Are you thinking about making several easy Valentine’s cookies varieties?
If so, you might want to make the dough ahead and freeze it in a freezer-proof container, for several weeks. You can thaw the dough by leaving it at room temperature for a few hours.
Freshly baked pink crinkle cookies will keep for up to 3 days in an airtight container at room temperature. But these are so yummy, I am willing to bet they won’t last that long. At least they wouldn’t in my house!
