Substitutions and Variations
Wide open to interpretation, this recipe is yours to tweak as much or as little as you wish. Just about anything sweet works as a topping, so get creative, see what you have in the pantry, and have fun decorating the pancakes.
Use anything from mini marshmallows to nuts, raisins, cinnamon sugar (for cinnamon roll pancakes) or gingerbread syrup (for gingerbread pancakes).
Some melted butter is also good, or perhaps you want a drizzle of maple syrup, some sweetened cream cheese with fresh fruit, or some powdered sugar on your festive pancakes.
How to Serve Pancakes for Christmas
Serve these warm, as soon as they’re ready. If you want to pair something else with them, consider a savory item like breakfast muffins with boiled eggs or any of these breakfast dish ideas.
Don’t make too much, though, because you’ll want everyone hungry again later for their Christmas dinner!
How to Store Christmas Morning Pancakes
Store: Although leftovers can be kept refrigerated for a couple of days, these are so much nicer served freshly made, so only make as much as you think will be eaten.
Freeze: This isn’t a great recipe for freezing. If you have leftovers, either pop them in the fridge or throw them out. This Christmas morning breakfast deserves to be served fresh, as it’s so quick to make anyway.
