The first time I heard about apple cider mojito, I was intrigued. After all, mojitos are usually refreshing combinations of lime, rum and mint with some club soda and sugar. Apple cider has a very different flavour profile and is fruity, sweet and rich. This Autumn cocktail with cider brings the best of both worlds into one glass though. This boozy cider recipe will be a Fall favourite. Luckily, this spiked apple cider and rum cocktail makes a pitcher, so there is enough to share.
Apple cider mojitos are always a welcome drink, especially during the fall. This recipe is easy to make and a little too easy to drink!
Some more recipes you might enjoy include bourbon peach ice cream, watermelon jalapeno margaritas, apple pie Fireball cocktails, or state fair lemonade.
Let’s first take a look at the ingredients you need to make this cold apple cider and rum concoction. You’ll be pleased to know it’s a quick and easy recipe. You need apple cider, rum and lemon juice along with club soda and ice.
I used regular apple cider to make this but if you want to use hard apple cider that works too. There isn’t any sugar in this spiked apple cider cocktail because the cider is already sweet. But you can always sweeten your fall cocktails more if you choose.
Choose from light or dark rum, depending on what you have and/or prefer. Either will work in fall drink recipes and each will add a slightly different flavor to this boozy cider recipe. So just use your judgement about which you want to pair. And as for the lemon juice, you can’t go wrong with fresh, although bottled juice would work in an apple cider mojito also.
How to Make this Autumn Cocktail with Cider
Apple cider, rum and lemon juice combine in a pitcher first of all. Add some ice cubes when you’re ready to serve it. If you’re making it ahead, leave out the ice for now and put some plastic wrap over the top of the pitcher. You can then refrigerate it overnight and finish it off the following day.
Pour the apple cider mojito into glasses and add a splash of club soda. You might also wish to add some cinnamon simple syrup and/or thin orange slices. It can be fun to play around with this apple cider mojito and try different variations.
Fall Cocktails with Apple Cider Garnishes
The choice of garnishes for your spiked apple cider is up to you. I love to decorate mine with cinnamon sticks and mint. Muddle the mint (smoosh it a bit!) to extract that delicious mint flavour.
Cinnamon and apple are naturally perfect together while the mint is a typical mojito ingredient. Serve this cold apple cider and rum as soon as you’ve poured and garnished it. This is going to become one of your favorite fall cocktail recipes!
If you want to use other garnishes, consider apple slices soaked in lemon or lime juice (to stop them browning) or a cute plastic swizzle stick. Star anise and lemon slices are also great in this cocktail. Add as many or as few garnishes as you want to this brilliant boozy cider recipe.
My New Fall Favourite Cocktail!
This cold apple cider and rum drink is a fun, seasonal spin on the classic mojito. It promises warm, earthy flavours, the comforting taste of juicy apple and a little kick of rum.
Elevate the flavor of these fun fall cocktails even more by using fresh-pressed apple cider direct from the orchard, fresh lime juice and top-shelf rum. Bacardi (either regular or gold) would suit the flavors in this spiked apple cider. I just love it!
Mojitos are a classic summer cocktail. Everything from the refreshing ice and club soda to the fragrant mint screams summer cocktail. But when you add apple cider to the mix it becomes a brand new cold apple cider and rum drink. I find this boozy cider recipe perfect for the Autumn when the weather is beginning to cool down a little.
This simple combination of apple cider, rum and lemon juice is perfect for any occasion. Consider making it for the adults if you’re throwing a Halloween party! Or make it if you’re having friends over for snacks and drinks.
How to Make Cinnamon Simple Syrup
If you’re a fan of cinnamon (and who isn’t!) you might like to add some of this to the mixture. Put ¼ cup of sugar in a small pan with ¼ cup and 1 tablespoon of water plus half a cinnamon stick. Once it boils turn the heat off and let it cool completely.
A splash of this is wonderful in an apple cider mojito. It is very sweet though so I’d recommend using a dry or tart apple cider in the recipe so the whole thing doesn’t come out overly sweet. You might not find it too sweet. Everyone’s palate is different, so just do the taste test!
